www.mknewslink.com managing editor has exclusively learnt that Bushenyi police solicited 500,000= shillings from Mrs Monicah Rwamutwe in order to track the kidnappers of her husband who was at the time still alive.
According to Mrs Monicah Rwamutwe, the police detectives approached her on Wednesday, a day after her husband had been captured and told her that they were going to Isingiro district to track the kidnappers.
They told her that they had information that the ransom she had paid on mobile money had been withdrawn for Kaberebere town in Isingiro district.
While telling the story to residents of Bushenyi town who had come to her shop after learning of her husband’s kidnap. She told them that “I have run out of money because I have paid Bushenyi police detectives 500,000= while going to Kaberebere in Isingiro to track the kidnappers of my husband and in the morning, I paid a ransom of 500,000=. The whole of today[Wednesday] I have spent a lot of money and I don’t know whether my husband is still alive” she told about 10 Bushenyi residents who included www.mknewslink.com managing Editor Wilber Muhwezi-Kasibante.
However, when this editor contacted the regional police commander for Bushenyi Greater Mr. Eddie Sserunjoji yesterday, he denied that his police never solicited the money from the widow.
“Mr. Muhwezi, I want to tell you that am not aware that of the incident. Am the one coordinating the exercise but I have not heard that. Its new to me and its not true” He said.
However, the widow of Rwamutwe said it when this editor was there and Monicah is a well known in Bushenyi town as a truthful woman who is even saved in the Catholic Church.
Mr. Sserunjoji went ahead to say that it’s not true that police is broke and therefore was soliciting money from the public to do police work. “We are not broke. We are running normally” he assured us.
