The archdeacon for Nyabirerema Archdeaconry in the diocese of Kigezi
Ven. Edward Mwesigwa has been dragged to Kabale police station for
allegedly neglecting a child he fathered.

Win Atusasire 35, a resident of Murandano cell, Bigaga parish, Butanda
Sub County, Kabale district is accusing Ven. Mwesigwa to have
impregnated her but has since refused to provide for their 16-year old

According to Atusasire, Ven. Mwesigwa allegedly raped and impregnated
her on 24th November 2001 and by then he was serving as the parish
priest of Rubaya church of Uganda. She raped her after she had gone to
pick balls to use in church sports activities as she was the youth

being kept and in the processes he turned against her and raped her.

Atusasire says that she concealed information about a sexual encounter
with Mwesigwa after he pleaded for mercy in order for him not to lose
his job and promised to fully care for the child. However she says
that the man of God only provided a baby shawl worth twenty thousand
shillings when the baby was going for baptism in 2002.

Atusasire says that despite several times she has approached Mwesigwa
seeking for help to the child, she was always bounced. She has now
resorted to report the matter to police for intervention.

She adds that though she went to the office of the Kigezi diocesan
secretary seeking for guidance, she was referred to police to complain.
