HOIMA RESIDENTS TAKE UNRA TO HIGH COURT OVER 2BILLION COMPENSATION

in Masindi—-
Residents of over five villages in Kabwoya Sub County in Hoima
district are demanding for over 2 billion compensation from Uganda
National Roads Authority (UNRA) and Collins Construction Company for
the damages which were inflicted on them during the construction of
Kaiso Tonya road.
Opio Alpha, the district councilor representing Kabwoya Sub County,
says that in 2013 during the construction of Kaiso-Toanya one of the
oil roads in the region,  there was rock blasting and stones could
explode and destroy crops, kill animals and houses developed cracks
and others  totally destroyed  something which didn’t go well with the
residents.
Opio adds that most of the houses in these villages are in habitable
noting that some people have abandoned them and they have nothing to
do.
Opio says that as leaders and the affected people tried to engage the
office of the RDC of Hoima district such that they could solve the
matter amicably but UNRA and Collin Construction Company did not
respond well something which forced them to run to High court Masindi
where they filed the case in 2015.
The affected villages include, Kyenjojo, Hohwa, Kaseta, Nyanseke,
Kataaba and Kabaale all in Kabwoya Sub County in Hoima district.
Elias Binkhelin, the team leader, explains that the Deputy RDC Hoima
district Ambroze Mwesigye, took them to the Manager Collin
construction company and the manager gave them the lawyer for Collins
to go and value the damaged properties but  still they didn’t get the
money.
Today the case is now before Masindi resident judge Justice Albert
Rugadya Atwooki  for hearing and the case has been adjourned to
15thFebruary 2018 after court has visited the locus.
On Friday this week the Masindi resident Judge Justice Albert Rugadya
Atwooki is going to visit the ground to establish what could have
exactly happened.
Robert Irumba, the lawyer of the affected, says that the total claim
is over 2 billion and the witnesses are almost done with their
submissions
