National resistance movement [NRM] party officials in Bushenyi district have abandoned their flag bearer Andrew Martial to support the independent candidate Micheal Mawanda in the ongoing Igara east parliamentary by-election.
The entire Bushenyi district NRM executive, Martial only has chairman Basajabalaba Hassan who even has no time to campaign for him. He appeared in the district once and shortly left for his businesses.
However, other four core executive members are busy campaigning for Micheal Mawanda. Scovia Ndyakira district NRM vice chairperson, Secretary general Umar Muhanguzi, publicity secretary Rev. Lauben Mugarura are moving with mawanda from rally to rally in the constituency.
Still, Bushenyi-Ishaka municipal council Divisional NRM chairmen have also joined Mawanda’s campaign trail where he conducts about three rallies in every parish.
The divisional NRM chairmen include; Mr. Wilson Karuhanga-Nyakabirizi division, Kyota Yasin- Ishaka division and Lozio Nshemerirwe central division.
Back in the constituency, Martial has only Mzee Elidad Karukuko Kyeizooba sub-county NRM chairman who also doubles as his political assistant on his campaign team.
On the issue of Igara East sub-county lc3 chairmen who are 5 in total and all serving on NRM ticket; Martial has only one Mbangirwoha Kanyari of Ibaare sub-county. Mawanda has Ruhumuro sub-county chairman John Tumuhaise, Kyabugimbi sub-county Mr. Elisam Mugizi, Kyeizooba sub-county- chris Bebanza and Bumbaire sub-county chairman has not decided. Sources tell us that he is between martial and Mawanda.

Political analysts told www.mknewslink.com editor Dec.1, 2017 that if the trend remains like this the NRM flag bearer will conclude this by-election in the third position.
Martial also lost key agents who determined his win in 2016; Lukas Muhangi who was at the time a former political assistant of Mawanda, Moses Rugunda who is a king make in a big part of Kyabugimbi sub-county.
Others are Mutesasira Kaganizo and Dan Karukiko who are not as active they were in the last elections. He also lost a reasonable number of political active youths who greatly supported his cause.
