Police in Rukungiri have arrested and detained two youth councilors while protesting failure for the district leadership to hand over their heifers under the Operation Wealth Creation program.
The arrested are; Jorum Agaba the acting district youth chairperson and Tindimwebwa Gerald chairperson NRM youth league.
The two were arrested yesterday 6th June 2018 evening from Bwanga, Nyarushanje Sub County at the district farm where they had gone to pick their heifers together with the district leaders.
Rukungiri district youth councilors have been struggling with district leadership over the heifers supplied to the district under operation wealth creation program (OWP) as promised by President Museveni.
Rukungiri district on Monday 3rd June 2018 received 50 heifers under operation wealth creation program but the district leaders failed to distribute them among the beneficiaries and they decided to take them the district stock farm located in Bwanga, Nyarushanje Sub County.
The acting district youth Chairperson Mr. Jorum Agaba told www.mknewslink.com that the president pledged to the youth councilors 16 heifers in a measure to eradicate poverty.
However, the RDC Rukungiri district Martin Mugabe said that they had to first visit, monitor and supervise the farms of the youth who are to benefit to cross check whether they manage to care for the cows.
RDC’s proposal was not welcomed by the youth thus demonstrating only to be scattered by Police.
