Bushenyi police detectives are hunting for two Bushenyi district staff formerly attached to Ruhumuro sub-county on charges of stealing over 12 million shillings meant for youth livelyhood project, road fund and community driven development[CDD] fund.
According to deputy chief administrative Bushenyi district Simon Watti, the officials on the run are Milton Mugabe acting sub-county chief and Lenard Atwiine the senior accounts assistant, all formerly attached to Ruumuro sub-county in Igara East.
Deputy CAO Watti told www.mknewslink.com editor in an exclusive interview in his office today Sept. 05, 2015 that the district has written to Bushenyi district police commander Damiano Katwesiime to arrest the two officers on sight.
He added that after writing to police and then mounted a hunt the two ran away but was confident that they would be apprehended soon and then face the law.
He noted that he has also called for a special audit to establish the exact amount of money that was stolen because it appears that the lost money is more than 12 million.
Watti said that the district has already deployed new staff to replace the accused staff. He also added that another staff to work as a community development officer will be posted to the sub-county soon because Mugabe was also executing duties of the community development officer on top of being a sub-county chief.
“Their files are here with me, we shall interdict them and then face courts of law because am sure that police will arrest them. Here, we don’t condone neither corruption nor embezzlement of government funds” Watti vowed.
The LC111 chairman for Ruhumuro sub-county Mr. Tumuhaise yesterday told www.mknewslink.com editor that he is the one made the alarm smelling something fishy.
“Am very disappointed with my former staff for stealing sub-county money. Me I thought they were clean and determined to work like their predecessors. It’s a shame!” Ruhumuro sub-county chairman lamented.
Ruhumuro sub-courty is a hard to reach sub-county which was curved out of Kyabugimbi around 2010. It is at the boarder of Bushenyi and Buhweju districts.
It has been a while since money was stolen from a sub-county in Bushenyi district. These cases were common at the time when graduated tax was still in place, 12 years ago.
