Sand miners in Ngoma Sheema Municipality under their umbrella Twekorere Sand Mining Association last week held a protest over Sheema municipal Council ban on Sino motor trucks.
The protest follows a ban on Sino motor trucks that belong to Twekorere sand mining association for the last 28 days from accessing roads within Kiziba -Byotsya in Kagango division Sheema municipality.
Dickens Mutatina the chairman Twekorere Sand mining association revealed that they have now spent close to a month without working which has caused them losses close to ugx.700 million.
John Kabandize another sand miner claimed that they are subjected to this injustice by some parties within Sheema municipality with allegations that their Sino Motor Trucks have continuously destroyed the roads in the area amidst thriving sand mining Business.
According to Sheema municipal Council resolution, every sinotruck pays ugx.10000 for both off loading and loading, Maguru ikumi ugx.6000, Forward ugx.4000, and Elfu canters ugx.2000
Abel Kahara the Mayor Sheema municipal Council told www.mknewslink.com reporter that his office has received a letter from the aggrieved sand dealers and revealed that Sheema Municipal Council is committed to taking action.
Last month, following the confusion surrounding the sand mines in Ngoma, unknown assailants attempted to set Rwebiita preparatory school on fire accusing Prof. Meserch Katusiimeh the Director of the school of conniving with Sheema municipal Council leaders to block their trucks from accessing Kiziba -Byotsya road in Kagango division Sheema municipality.
The locals revealed that the Professor is hiding behind “community cause” while taking advantage of the situation to advance his political ground.
Sand dealers have confirmed that they have finalized the legal process to take Sheema Local Government and Prof. Mesearch in courts of laws to have this matter resolved to its logical conclusion.
