The exercise was launched in Kikingura town in Bwijanga sub county.
Speaking at the launch, Brigadier General Daniel Kakono, the division commander Masindi Artillery Barracks as the chief guest noted the significance of the exercise explaining that all are about Pan Africanism, social economic transformation and celebrating people’s struggle.
He said the reason as to why the day is to be celebrated at Kikingura town is because it was an area which was attacked after the National Resistance Army (NRA) captured Masindi barracks as it was moving back to Luwero triangle where it acted as a center for massacre of people.
He added; “the love, support and sacrifice the residents showed towards NRA in the struggle of the country is the reason the day is celebrated annually.”
They have to organised activities such as cleaning the area and also organising a health camp for free to the community.
The medical camp is aimed at vaccination against killer diseases, antenatal care, dental and other illnesses adding that those who will fail to be attended to at the camp site shall be referred to their health center at artillery barracks to get treatment for free.
Speaking at the same function, Cosmas Byaruhanga, Masindi district LCV chairman hailed UPDF for choosing Kikingura as place to celebrate the day since it is a historical place.
“If you want to achieve something, don’t hesitate, form a group push for it and get what you want. NRA began just with 27 people who had guns and now millions are enjoying their efforts from the struggle,” Byaruhanga noted.”
