DRAMA AS KIGEZI DIOCESE REV. FIGHTS WITH RESIDENTS OVER LAND
By Grant Ahumuza
In Kabale—
There is a disagreement between Kijonjo church of Uganda primary school parents and school authorities over leasing school’s land located in Buhara sub county Kabale district without parent’s consent .
Recently, Kijonjo church of Uganda with other school authorities advertised a 3 acre land for leasing which mounted suspicion among some parents.
The Authorities headed by Rev. James Nelson Nyehangane the area overseer and the school head teacher Twinomujuni Julius argue that the land was advertised and Indian construction company SINO Company took an interest to construct iron ore industry and leasing was aimed at developing the school garden into an income creator.
However, some of the parents say the decision is unfair, adding that they have made several efforts asking authorities to sensitize them on how the land is being leased but in vain.
Davis Turyamwijuka, a parent says that there is no reason why the school administrators and the overseer leased the school garden since it has been being used by school teachers to earn their living.
He adds that the iron industry will bring confusion and noise to learners during their studies since it will be near the school premises.
Johnson Baguma another parent who is also the Buhara sub county LC V councilor, says if the parents are not interested in the project, it will be shifted to some other parts because many people need it.
While speaking at Kijonjo Church of Uganda on Sunday 13, the Kijonjo primary school authorities led by the overseer Rev. James Nelson Nyehangane and the school head teacher Julius Twinomujuni claimed that the matter is being handled by diocese officials since the school under church and appealed to parents to relax if they don’t support the idea.
However when contacted on the matter , Reverend Erasmus Turyatunga, the Diocesan secretary of the Diocese of Kigezi said there is no need for parents to worry since the diocese is the planning authority, adding that their views will be heard before leasing but appealed to them to calm down.
