High court in Kabale has ordered for the arrest of the municipal mayor and town clerk over demolition of Kabale central market.
The order was given by justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi as he finally gave out his ruling on the case sued against the municipality by Kabale central market vendors Association Ltd).
He ruled that the respondents who are; the mayor and the town clerk be arrested and committed to civil prison for contempt of court since it stopped the demolition of the market but the mayor went on to do so.
He added that the Municipality should also compensate Kabale traders association 100 million shillings for the market demolished.
The same court issued an interim order restraining Kabale Municipal Council and its agents from evicting, registering, relocating traders and demolishing Kabale Central Market to pave way for its reconstruction until the main suit is heard and determined.
The order issued followed application from the same traders led by Simon Mashemererwa in December last year.
The traders argued that the registration exercise was not being done in a proper way.
Emmanuel Byamugisha Sentaro, the Kabale Municipality Mayor said that they have received judgment and that their lawyers are studying it.
He added that the market was demolished by Traders themselves but not the municipality as alleged.
