Prime minister for Bunyororo Kitara kingdom Andrew Byakutaga has urged the kingdom chiefs to promote coffee growing and continue to participate in government programs social and economic development.
While delivering his massage at the induction and refresher course for chiefs held at Masindi municipal chambers, Robert Rukahemura, the social affairs officer at the kingdom told the chiefs that it is important for them to participate in coffee growing as one of the leading economic activities in the country.
“Coffee is one of the sector from which government is getting money and its of great value to you as well to grow and promote in your respective areas of jurisdiction so that at the end you are economically stable besides prompting government programs like Parish development model (PDM) and Emyooga among others for social and economic development,” Rukahemura said.
Rukahemura added that he was delegated to remind the chiefs about taking their children to school saying the kingdom has bursaries and half bursaries for those going to universities.
The purpose of the meeting was to refresh the minds of the old chiefs since it has been long since they had such engagement as well as training new ones on how kingdom activities are conducted.
Speaking on behalf of the over 40 chiefs who attended the training, Abdullah Serunkuma the acting county chief for Masindi municipality hailed the kingdom for such a training saying as chiefs they shall commit themselves to improve their works as far as representing The Omukama is concerned.
Serunkuma says as chiefs they request for improved communication especially on notices of development.
The participants came from the four divisions of Masindi municipality.
