Hundreds on Wednesday gathered in Katungu, Mparo town council in Rukiga District at the family of the late Wilberforce Murungi Turinawe, the father of Ivan Murungi one of famous TV and radio presenter in western Uganda for his final send off.
Mourners and relatives one after another described the late Murungi as a person who inspired and educated several Ugandans since he was a teacher.
During the funeral service that was held at St Johns Kihanga Church of Uganda Archdeaconary, mourners led by the Kabale district Chairperson Patrick Besigye Keihwa, and relatives led by Alison Murungi Mutesigensi, a daughter and Murungi Ivan all commended the late for educating his children.
Preaching during the service, the Archdeacon of Kihanga archdeaconry, Ven. Erasmus Turyatunga asked people to desist from consumption of alcohol which has resulted into poverty among them.
The late Murungi served as a teacher at Bubaare primary school in Rubanda district, Buzooba primary school in Kitojo, Kihanga Girls’ p/s, Kihanga boys’ p/s, Nyamambo p/s, as a Deputy Head teacher, and later to Buchundura primary school where he retired from in 2013.
Murungi succumbed to liver complication on Monday at Kabale Regional Referral hospital at the age of 65, and he has survived with 8 children, 13 grandchildren, he was laid to rest in his home Katungu, Mparo town council in Rukiga District.
