Police in Sheema have today arrested and taken to court Dr. Davis Asiimwe, in charge Kabwohe health centre IV after missing three times to appear before court to answer to charges of assaulting vision group journalist Sheikh Abdurhatif.
Dr. Asiimwe was on Monday 12, picked from his work place by the police and a group of journalist to Bushenyi court following arrest warrant issued last week.
He later appeared before grade one magistrate Asanansio Mukobi where he claimed that he did not appear before court because he was supposed to appear before the Parliamentary Public accounts committee on behalf of Sheema.
Mukobi later released him again on a non-cash bail against state attorneys decision of remanding him. The state attorney revealed that since the doctor is always in meetings, the file is likely never to end if he is not kept around.
Dr. Asiimwe was warned against missing session and the case was adjourned to 23rd Nov.2018.
Apollo Lee Kakonge a civil society activist wondered how an arrest warrant is issued and when the accused is presented before court he is released again. He added that there must have been money factor in this case.
Wilber Muhwezi Kasibante the managing director Mknewslink.com and member of Bushenyi journalist and Media Association (BUJOMA) noted that Sheema has turned into a battle field for journalists thus calling upon them (journalists) to stand up and fight for their rights.
We as journalists of BUJOMA we shall ensure that justice is seen happen, we shall not retreat, and no one will threaten us, Muhwezi noted
Dr. Asiimwe allegedly assaulted Sheikh Abdurhatif after the latter reported a story about of a one Faridah Kinconco who was allegedly given ARVS when she was HIV negative. Kiconco was tested HIV positive by Dr Asiimwe in 2011 and later in 2017 tested HIV negative.
It is alleged that the ARVS she used to take made her suffer to an extent of changing colour plus abdominal pain all the time.
