10 SUSPECTS ESCAPE FROM POLICE CELLS IN RUKUNGIRI, 2 OFFICERS ARRESTED

Police in Rukungiri have two of their own officers in detention for neglect of duty after a number of suspects escaped from lawful custody.
Kigezi Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate identified the two officers as No. 25907 Sgt. Boniface Muhoozi who was in charge of the counter and No.65635 PC Wilson Masereka, the station guard, both of whom were not on duty for unknown reasons.
Maate said that at around 4:28am yesterday, the suspects in male cells raised an alarm claiming one of them had collapsed and needed urgent attention.
The cells guard No. 039 SPC Christopher Mujurizi, quickly opened the cells to check and suddenly the suspects pushed him and dashed out of the cell and ran towards the Charge office door.
Maate narrated that the other officers present at counter rushed to prevent the escape by closing the door but 10 of them had escaped.
He has urged the public to cooperate and report to authorities if any of those suspects is seen anywhere within the community.
The suspects who escaped are; Byamugisha Allan M/J remandee charged with theft, Ampeire Davis M/J remandee charged with aggravated defilement, Mwesigwa Amos M/a charged with Causing death by Rush and Negligent Act, Niwagaba Davis charged with assault, Arinda Peter charged with threatening violence, Akampamya Stuart charged with Threatening Violence, Niwagaba Sam Davis charged with theft, Akankwasa Andrew charged with Threatening Violence, Mubangizi Abert charged with theft, Kakuru Adam charged with Shop Breaking and theft.
