14 YOUTHS ARRESTED OVER POSSESSION OF OPIUM IN FORT PORTAL

14 youths from Fort portal have today morning been arrested over possession of opium in an operation held by Kagote police, Giso south division, and the local defense unit.
According to the OC Kagote police West Division Fort Portal municipality sergeant Moses Kasule, the 14 have been arrested from Kagote cell, Rwengoma A1 in Rukongora ghetto West Division Fort portal municipality.
They have been identified as Ategeka Godwin, Muhamad Martin, Sanyu Charles, Akandwanaho Roger,ukwikirize Brian,Tugume James Sekande George,Mujuni David,Abdala Azizi,Rashid Perez,Kamanzi Abdaul,Kyomuhendo Hasna and Balinda Christopher.
Sergeant Kasule stated that the suspects have been arrested with bags of processed opium ready for sale and some suspected stolen items like shoes among other house properties.
He stated that the suspects had hid the opium in the sealing in their houses where they reside.
Sergeant Kasule said that the arrest comes after several complaints from the community over the escalated theft cases in the west division and Fort Portal Municipality at large.
He narrated that it is alleged that the duo have been grabbing women’s bags, snatching phones and rapping women who use the pass that they have been arrested from.
Kasule disclosed that the suspects will be taken to court and if found guilty they will be charged with possession of opium.
However, the chairperson LCIII west division who also doubles as GISO West division Richard Muhumuza expressed concern over the rate youths are spoilt in the area by consuming drugs leading to high rate of crime in the area.
Muhumuza disclosed that last week a woman was raped in the same area suspecting the arrested group to have committed it.
