2400 STUDENTS GRADUATE AT KIU’S 20TH GRADUATION

A total of 2400 students on 16th June graduated from Kampala International University.
The University’s 20th graduation ceremony was held at the KIU main campus in Kansanga along Ggaba Road. Students received degrees and Diplomas, certificates plus PhDs in various academic disciplines.
The colorful event was presided over by Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye.
He also commended KIU for flying the country’s flag high.
“Marking the 20th graduation is a clear sign of the contribution the University has made towards the development of human resource capacity not only for Uganda, but also within the East African Region and beyond,” the Minister said in approval.
He also lauded KIU’s proprietor -Al Hajji Dr. Hassan Basajjabalaba for his contribution to higher education of learning for which he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate recently.
“Al Hajji Basajjabalaba has challenged the odds in setting up what is now clearly a very competitive University of both national and International repute,” the Minister noted.
He also extolled University’s Chancellor praising him as a “seasoned academician, researcher and an internationally recognized scientist.”
Prof. John M. P. Sebuwufu, has served as former Vice Chancellor and Chancellor in many public and private Universities.
He said he was not surprised that KIU is making great strides in advancing its quality in the delivery of higher education since the people overseeing the University are people of national and International acclaim who cherish quality and have a name to protect.
“As government, we also appreciate and congratulate the KIU group for its constituent College in Dar-es-Salaam having been elevated to a University status under the name of Kampala International University in Tanzania,” he added saying “We are confident that you will make a big difference in creating opportunities for study and jobs in Tanzania like it is already evident here in Uganda.”

The Minister noted that the presence of the KIU Group in several countries in East Africa will contribute positively towards the realization of the implementation of the Higher Education protocols and standards within the region, under the framework of the Inter-University Council for East Africa.
Meanwhile, the acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof George Nasinyama said that 42% of the graduands are female while 58 are males.
Records show that 54% of the graduands are from the University’s Western Campus in Ishaka found in Bushenyi District.
The prestigious ceremony was also attended by Minister Dr. AElioda Tumwesigye, the Chairman Board of Trustees of KIU, Al-Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba, University Chancellor Prof John Ssebuwufu, the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo plus the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, among others.
In November last year a total of 3700 students graduated at various levels with qualifications ranging from certificate to PhD levels during the 19th graduation ceremony at the campus.
This year, two of those passed who excelled graduated with PhDs.
