LET MEDIA DO ITS WORK—FR. GAETANO TELLS KADAGA
BY VANANSIO KAKOGOSO
IN KABALE
The Chairperson for Kigezi-inter Religious Council Rev. Fr. Gaetano
Batanyenda has said that the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga
should go slowly on castigating the media for negative publicity.
Batanyenda’s comments follow the recent comments by Kadaga accusing
the media for of deliberately carrying inaccurate stories with the
intentions of portraying parliament negatively.
Kadaga expressed anger over recent stories in the media, which exposed
the expenditure on the legislator’s trip to the United States of
America to attend the Uganda North American Convention and the
proposed purchase of vehicles for legislators at the total of 200
million shillings each.
Kadaga also directed the Chairperson of the Rules and Privileges
Committee of parliament to look into the publications and sue the
media houses for contempt of parliament.
However, while addressing journalists this afternoon at Kick
Corruption out of Uganda Offices in Kirigime Kabale municipality, Fr.
Batanyenda says that there is no reason why Kadaga should harass
the journalists yet they are reporting facts about Parliament.
Fr. Batanyenda who is also the Kitanga catholic parish priest says
that the speaker should guide parliament in passing policies that are
pro people, media will report well.
