Six lay canons and five strong Christians of west Ankole diocese have sued the archbishop of the church of Uganda the most Stanly Ntagali for taking over the diocese illegally.

The civil suit was filed in a Kampala high court. The archbishop was given 15 days from Oct. 10, 2016 by the deputy registrar Alex Ajiji to file his defence.

Archbishop Ntagali took over the Episcopal jurisdiction of west Ankole diocese effective Oct. 02, 2016 after the former Bishop of the diocese Yona Mwesiwa Katoneene clocked 65 years  which is a mandatory time for any bishop according to the provincial constitution should retire.

The eleven canons and strong Christians are led by canon Christopher Kisembo. They are represented in court by senior counsel Paul Tusubira of Paul Tusubira and company advocates.

The canons and Christians accuse archbishop Ntagali of taking over the diocese after the west Ankole diocese synod had put in place an electoral college to choose a new Bishop of the troubled diocese.

The canons are Can. Christopher Kisembo, Can Yorakam Bashaasha, Can. Joram Tibasiima, Can Yorokam Batuna, Can. Ephraim Bamugyendera, Can. John Njoki.

Strong Christians are; Elly Kekuruso, Eliab Turyobingi, Emannuel Karasi, Mbeera Lawrence and Elidad Kamuza.

Bishop Yona Katoneene retired on Oct. 02, 2016 and never left a successor because the Christians in Sheema district who had been sharply opposed to him stopped the election of the new Bishop because they wrote to the house of bishops that the synod that elected electoral college then never followed the law. This however was heard and their after the synod was dissolved and a new one elected but the time was too short to elect a new bishop. The constitution of the church of Uganda requires that an electoral college elects a bishop within six months and the current Electoral College is not yet one month old.

Mbarara High School was yesterday crowned the champion of Western Uganda Schools Training and Debate Tournament 2016.

The Debate was organized by National Debate Council and hosted by Bwongyera Girls SS in Kajara county Ntungamo District.

Mbarara High School emerged winner after defeating Bweranyangi Girls SS of Bushenyi District in the finals.

The Tournament attracted 10 out of over 25 secondary schools that were invited from Western Uganda to participate in the Debate.

Mbarara H/S came in first place followed by Bweranyangi Girls SS, Ntare School 3^rd,St Paul H/S Rushooka 4^th ,Bwongyera Girls SS 5^th,Ibanda SS 6^th , Muntuyera H/S Kitunga 7^th ,Kitwe SS 8^th ,Maama Janet Museveni Girls SS 9^th ,and Rwashamaire H/S in 10^th position.

The winning school will participate at National level competition due to take place on 12^th Dec 2016 at Nalya SS Namugongo in Wakiso District and the final competition will be at Uganda’s Parliament on 13^th Dec 2016.

Handing over the Trophy to Mbarara H/S, the chairman LCV Ntungamo District Denis Singahache tasked all students to be focused and assertive if they are to succeed in their studies and be persons of great valve in future.

Singahache hailed the Headmistress Bwongyera Girls SS Muzoora Atuhairwe Juliet and the Chairman National Debate Council Gasta Kakaire for organizing debate which will mentally sharpen the students to be good orators and leaders of tomorrow worldwide.

The chairman National Debate Council Gasta Kakaire was un happy with low turn up of schools in the tournament saying that they are denying students chance to build their talents.

According to Kakaire engaging students in mental sports alongside academics will improve on their performances in studies.

The winning school was awarded a trophy and other participating schools were given certificates of attendance.
