THERE ARE NO GENETICALLY MODIFIED CROPS IN UGANDA—MINISTER DR ELIODA TUMWESIGYE

Government is to table in parliament National Biotechnology and Biosafety Bill in two months time.
This was revealed by the minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye while meeting the Mbarara municipality leaders today Jan. 09, 2017 and the council hall.
Tumwesigye revealed that in one or two months this bill will be tabled in parliament for discussion as per now it is still in committee for public hearing where everyone can contribute towards this bill.
Minister Tumwesigye says that this bill if passed will be able to regulate and guide in the use of genetically modified organisms like plants animals among other things.
He says that it’s better to have a law which will protect people from dangerous effects of genetically modified organisms as new technology is adopted.
In his remarks the National Coordinator of National Council of Science and Technology Phillip Chemonges said that the public is now in fear that they are already using genetically modified products and has increased diseases like cancer, pressure among others.
Chemonges says that National council of Science and Technology they have not yet released any product of Genetically Modified Organisms therefore the available products like big mangoes, Bananas, Oranges are just convectional breeds therefore these diseases are caused by their lifestyles like eating a lot of fats among others.
