DRIVER DIES IN IBANDA ACCIDENT

A renown senior serving driver and mechanic, on Thursday met his death while driving a lorry which failed to brake and rammed into a mango tree killing him instantly.
52 year-old James Tumwine a.k.a Bijodoro who hails from Bubaare cell in Ibanda municipal was driving a lorry Reg.No. UAM 824 Q and it was carrying murram which he was going to deliver at a construction site a long Kasuuku road, but it developed mechanical fault and failed to brake.
Tumwine who sensed danger ahead of him, tried to save the lives of students who were coming from Ibanda university but ended up hitting a mango tree before the lorry over turned several times. His head and face were shuttered and he died on spot.
The turn boy Mr. Seperiano Nyongyere who was sitting next Tumwine escaped death unhurt and is the one who narrated the story.
Friends, drivers, the family and political leaders who attended the funeral service at Bubaare cell praised James Tumwine for his honesty, a friend to many people, hard working and who had respect for others .They said Tumwine worked with Kibubura Girls’ Secondary School and World Food Programme as a driver before he retired and went into private business in Ibanda district.
Speaking during the funeral service at Bubaare cell yesterday ,Rev. Jackson Katungi of St. Paul church in Ibanda archdeaconry, decried what he termed the increasing habits of youth who are engaging themselves in smoking marijuana and taking alcohol parked in buvera, but do not want to develop their areas.
The District Traffic Officer, Ibanda, Mr. Deo Ishungisa blamed some drivers who drive vehicles which are in dangerous mechanical conditions will be prosecuted in courts of law . He asked the drivers to respect the road safety regulations and should insect the vehicles before taken to streets.
