Over 15000 of Kashari south constituency residents are stranded after the whole sub county of Rubaya has been hit by drought .
According to the chairman LC 3 of Rubaya Sub County Steven Katanaka the whole sub county has been using only one source of water from Kitete swamp and it has now become dry and residents find it hard to get water for domestic use and animals.
The most affected parishes include Rushozi, Runero and Ruburara. Steven said that there are some individuals who planted eucalyptus trees in that swamp and they consume a lot of water daily.
He said that they had written a letter to the ministry of water requesting them to construct the gravity flow water scheme such that they can use it for irrigation but to their surprise, when some of the technocrats from the ministry came ,they told them that there isnt enough water for the scheme.
According to Christopher Abaho, the resident of the area and a farmer, said that they are finding it hard to get water for their livestock and some of them have started dieng due to lack of water.
Its not only the animals affected, also the crops are drying. Julein Kabagambe, who is also a farmer, said that her maize plantation has dried before they were ready
