In Kampala/Bushenyi–
The highly anticipated private members bill on amendment of article 102 of the constitution meant to remove presidential age limit from the constitution to enable Museveni rule for ever has failed to take off today 21st Sept.2017, following high tempers of both NRM and opposition MPs.
The opposition Members of parliament, who were charged to capacity to fight, created an environment that could not allow any debate to take shape.
The speaker of Parliament;Rebecca Kadaga returned from a foreign trip last night to participate in the highly anticipated debate. On the other hand the deputy speaker of parliament;Jacob Olanya who was meant to preside over the house today, told the mps that the Magyezi Age limit Bill could not be presented until after one week when the two speakers and other stakeholders will have met and agreed on a way forward.
Affter the aborted parliamentary sitting, opposition members of parliament who covered their heads with red clothes confirmed to the media that they would rather die other than the constitution to be amended to favour president Museveni to rule for life.
Both opposition and NRM MPs complained of heavy deployment of police, army and other plain clothed security personnel within and outside parliament.
They added that it was not conducive for them to deliberate when they were not sure of safety of their lives and the general public around the parliament.
