Kagango wetland near Kagango market and Kooga wetland at the border of Mbarara and Sheema districts.
Bamanyaisa says according to their work plan they want within one year to have cut all perennial crops and trees that are planted in the mentioned wetlands.
He further revealed that the municipal authorities have support from the district chairman/acting mayor; Can. David Kabigumira, RDC Willy Turyamubona , civil servants and the entire community of Sheema district.
He said that of recent, River Rwizi started facing water reduction due to encroachment on the wetlands by human activities.
As a solution to the above problems, he says they have resolved to restore the above mentioned wetlands which serve as the water sources. The amount of rainfall in these areas has reduced as a result of encroachment on the wetlands.
He noted that the environmental committees have already started arresting and taking to court people who don’t comply with regulations set in the NEMA Act.
