In Kabale–
Traders operating in central market in central division of Kabale
municipality are protesting delays to redevelop the market.

Last year, government announced plans to renovate central market under
Markets and Agriculture Trade Improvement Project (MATIP) program.

The Project will be implemented through an existing Project
Facilitation Team (PFT) in the Ministry of Local Government with
funding from African development bank.

The Kabale Municipality authorities further registered all traders
operating in the market. However, since the redevelopment plan was
announced the work has not kicked off.

Gertrude Tumusime a trader who deals in potatoes says that they
operate under deplorable conditions. She says that the situation
worsens when the rain season sets in. She explains that the buyers do
not turn up when the market gets filled with water.

Alex Mushabe an onion and tomato dealer wants the authorities to
pronounce themselves on when the works on the market will commence. He says that they close early due to lack of security and electricity
which affects their sales.

Samuel Kyomukama and Moses Biryomumisho all butchers are appealing to
the authorities to kick start the renovation so that they can get good
stalls where to sell meat.

The Kabale Municipality mayor Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha says that plans to redevelop the market are still underway and government has saved 23bilions shillings towards the renovation of the market. He
however says that Kabale municipal council has instructed town clerk
Innocent Ahimbisibwe to process designs.

In Kabarole–

Following the Uganda Medical Workers strike demanding for the pay rise Fort portal police Barracks health center III is overwhelmed by the patients who come for treatment.

According to Rwenzori police spokes person; Lydia Tumushabe, before the strike, the health unit used to receive between 40 and 50 patients daily but now they are receiving over 80 and 90 a day.

She stated that the health unit has only 10 health workers with one Regional surgeon, a clinical officer, comprehensive nurse, two laboratory attendants, one health inspector, records In charge, one nursing assistant and two VTS which she says the number of patients is bigger compared to staffing.

Tumusabe said that in the health unit they handle namely malaria, Typhoid, testing and treatment, immunizing antenatal care among others disclosing that they have run out of drug stock outs.

The PRO also said that for this reason they have applied to the district health officer for drug supply especially ARVS.

She explained that due to this challenge they only handle few emergency cases and refer others to private hospitals since there are no doctors at Buhinga.

On 16^th November 2017 at Karambi sub county head quarters leaders from Kabarole district assured the president that Medics from Kabarole had not joined their colleagues in the strike.

Meanwhile before the president came, the district chairman Mr.Rwabuhinga Richard convened the urgent meeting with the health center in-charges following reports that the people were shunning the facilities after the medical workers went on strike.

The district chairman reminded the medics of their oath and calling to serve and save the people’s lives.

In Ibanda–

Medical experts in Ibanda district have asked heads of families to put out let channels on their kitchen tops in a measure to avoid inhaling smoke produced from fire wood which causes lung diseases.

Dr. Leonard Bakahika   of Ebenezer clinic diagnostic center in Ibanda municipal says many housewives and house girls have raised complaints about the fire wood smoke as their life threatening element.

This message was yesterday revealed during the burial of Mrs. Faibi Kakirambure who died at the age of 83 at Mbarara referral hospital.

She succumbed to lungs complication a disease that was detected at Ebenezer diagnostic center before she was referred to Mbarara hospital for further treatment.

Mrs. Kakirambure was laid to rest yesterday at Kyaruhanga 1 cell in Ibanda municipal and left four children and over 40 grandchildren.

Dr. Bakahika advised the families that they should start planning to use gas, electricity or charcoal as they do not produce much smoke.

Mr. Emmy Kazoora, the head of the family, in his eulogy said the deceased was a renowned traditional herbalist in the area who used to treat children with different health conditions.

He urged the mourners to take an example of the deceased if they are to leave legacy.
