In Kyenjojo–
Police in Kyenjojo district are investigating circumstances under which 11 suspects broke police cell and escaped today morning.
The Rwenzori region police spokes person; Lydia Tumushabe has disclosed that the 11 suspects escaped from police cells during the mid night using the main entrance of police.
She explained that police have arrested their own officers who were on duty to help investigations on how the suspects escaped from the cells.
She further explained that none of the police officer was on duty was hurt when the suspects escaped.
Tushabe further said that police are still hunting for 11 suspects and disclosed that if they are rearrested they will face other counts of escaping from a lawful detention.

Eleven clerks of Igara Growers Tea Factory in Bushenyi district have been suspended over allegations of stealing tea leaves from farmers’ fields.
According to the Group manager Igara Tea Factory;Onesmus Matsiko, the clerks who are now in police custody at Mitooma police station were arrested on Sunday after one of the tea farmers; Willis Bashasha raised his complaint following the theft of his tea leaves.
Matsiko says the clerks are alleged to have been eluding with Gordon Tumwebaze; the tea estates manager of Mr.Willis Bashasha to steal tea leaves and give them to fake farmers for the whole of last year. Gordon Tumwebaze is currently detained at Mitooma police station.
He says since the suspects are in police custody the factory is now waiting to decide their fate.
Willis Bashasha confirmed to the www.mknewslink.com that for the whole of last year he lost tealeaves worth over 50 million shillings to fake farmers.
He revealed that the factory clerks; Adolf Kisembo and two others only identified as Loyce connived with his manager to steal his tea leaves which they gave to fake farmers.

The fake farmers now in police cells have been identified as;Nelson Nkwasiibwe,Rashid Kidu and Zadock Mpaka .

The Igara Growers Tea factory group manager; Onesmus Matsiko is appealing to farmers owning big tea estates who don’t manage to be present at their respective collection centres, to report to the factory in case they suspect theft of their tea leaves.
Police spokesperson for greater Bushenyi;SP Martial Tumusiime has confirmed the incident and said police investigations are ongoing after which the suspects will be taken to court for trial.

Rukungiri Resident district commissioner RDC Martin Mugabe has advised people in the district to store part of their harvests in a measure to ensure food security.

He says residents should learn from last year’s experience where hunger killed five people in Bwambara Sub County and forced close to 150 others from their homes.

This comes at a time when many farmers across the country are
harvesting especially Millet and Maize.
The RDC calls upon farmers to embrace the use of granaries where they keep food for future consumption instead of wholesomely selling off all the produce.
“Last year we lost people, due to hunger and women committed adultery in exchange of food as they had anything to eat. It is high time to have granaries back in place” he said.

In June last year, famine broke out in the district as a result of prolonged drought spell that left garden crops dry.

More than 900 families in Bwambara Sub-county were registered suffering from food shortage.
He blamed the hard hit drought on encroachment and planting trees in swamps.
“We are coming back to cut down trees planted in swamps again please preserve the environment and stop encroaching on our wetlands” he warned.

The Kabale district Chief administrative officer; Wilson Tibugyenda is
under fire from councilors over the award of 230 million shillings
tender for the construction of Kakomo Health centre III to Geses
Uganda limited; a firm that was blacklisted by the district
council.

The councilors say that the 2015/2016 financial year, council
unanimously resolved that Gueses Uganda limited be blacklisted by the
Public Procurement and Disposal of Public
Assets Authority (PPDA), after the firm was accused of incompetence in
executing district projects, especially Karorwa water project in
Bukinda sub county now in Rukiga district.

The Chairperson Health and Social services committee; Julius Barusya says that during their sector committee which sat on 12th December this year, they received information that Gueses Uganda Ltd had been awarded with contract as a sole bidder. He also says that the contracted was a warded at 230 million shillings yet the district had budgeted for the project at 200 million shillings.

The Kyanamira sub county district councilor; Pius Rwakimari wants the
award cancelled to allow other competent bidders come on board. He
wants Tibugyenda to explain how the contract was awarded the company that was blacklisted by the district council.
The Kabale district council speaker; Loy Zikampereza says that she has
instructed the district executive committee to investigate the process
through which the company got the award and report to next council.

However, Tibugyenda argues that the tender has not been awarded. He further says that when district advertised, it’s Gueses that picked the bills of quantities adding that they are in touch with PPDA authority to be guided for the way forward.
