The Fort-portal municipality mayor his worship; Rev. Kintu Muhanga Willy has condemned the dreadful manner in which public hospital staff are handling patients who come seeking treatment.
He says that many patients continue to die from hospitals after being abandoned by medical workers. He describes the trend as unfortunate in a democratic country like Uganda.
The charged mayor while giving an example of Fort-portal Regional Referral Hospital referred to the previous death of Mr. Freedom Mwesige a primary head teacher at Kahinju primary school who was recently buried.
He says that the head teacher breathed his last a few minutes after he was operated at the regional hospital. The mayor who claimed his presence at the facility by the time the fallen head-teacher died says that, immediately after an operation doctors without certifying the status of the patient left their way.
Muhanga a critic of the nature of health system in the country says that him together with relatives of the deceased were helpless after being shunned by senior doctors. Medical intern nurses tried to save the head-teacher’s life but eventually died because of lack of skills and capacity.
Speaking to our reporter mayor said that an unknown number of mothers and babies at FRRH are crying for help since the few intern nurses can’t manage complicated issues.
He added that every time people see their dear ones dying in hands of medical staff at Fort-Portal hospital because they have no money to bribe doctors.
