High court in Masindi presided over by resident judge Justice Albert Rugadya Atwooki, yesterday heard a case in which Bunyoro Kitara Reparations Agency (BUKITAREPA) dragged the Attorney General to court in 2016 over the government’s failure to address the injustices which were inflicted on the Banyoro during colonial time.
BUKITAREPA, through their lawyer Godfrey Malinga, told court that the AG was initially served since October 2016 but he has never responded.
Malinga thus tasked court to enter judgment in the absence of the attorney general since he had been served several times in vain
However, Justice Albert Rugadya Atwooki, advised the advocate to allow the attorney general prepare himself since the matter involves fundamental issues for Bunyoro region thereby giving the attorney general one more chance or else proceed in his absence.
The case was adjourned to 30th October 2018.
Malinga also noted that they pray that court stops the creation of constituencies which are created in favor of non indigenous Banyoro. He also said that BUKITAREPA is seeking affirmative action for the historical injustices that were done against the indigenous Banyoro.
