REFUGEES CAUSE OVER CROWDING IN FORT PORTAL REGIONAL REFERRAL HOSPITAL; DHO REVEALS

The District Health Officer for Kabarole Dr. Richard Mugahi has challenged the concerned authorities in different Refugee camps in Rwenzori region for failure to provide support staff members at Fort portal regional referral hospital where refugees are referred for medication.
Mugahi said that this has continued to cause overcrowding of patients, drug out stock and overworking of inadequate staff members employed at the referral hospital by the central government.
The DHO made the remarks during the closure of a four days meeting by refugee hosting districts in Uganda at St. Joseph’s Inn Virika Fort portal municipality.
Dr. Mugahi said that there is need for Non-governmental organizations that take care of refugee to provide more health workers at the hospital so that the number can fit to provide services to the increasing of patients.
The hospital has been grappling with the highest maternal death rate where 30 mothers died on labour in one quarter.
Fort portal Regional referral hospital admits patients from the seven districts of Rwenzori region with two refugee camps of Kyaka in Kyegegwa and Rwamwanja in Kamwenge district.
