IBANDA REGISTERS LOW TURN UP IN VILLAGE CHAIRPERSONS NOMINATIONS

There was general low turn up across fifteen sub counties and three divisions in Ibanda municipality Ibanda district during nomination for village chairpersons www.mknewslink.com understands.
Only 24 candidates in Bufunda ward have been nominated according to Gelvasio Walusimbi. He added that the LC 1 chairpersons who have been registered are only males from NRM, FDC and Independents.
Meanwhile, voters in Ishongororo town council complained that the method of lining behind candidates was old method and this will divide the families as well their friends.
However, Benon Kaimutsa, the LC 3 Chairperson said noted that people have welcomed the idea of lining up saying that the system will control corruption from voters since they will be forced to prove accountability for the bribes taken.
The district registrar Tolbert Musinguzi said the exercise has started well despite the low turn of LC1 chairpersons candidates. He added that he expects more candidates to be nominated on the deadline day tomorrow.
In Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality nominations also kicked off in a high gear with the nominees splashing a lot of money in convoys. The turn up was also low.
The voting day is set on Tuesday 10th July 2018 according to electoral commission.
