Police is currently involved in running battles with activists protesting over the social and mobile money taxes that government put into action at the beginning of July 2018.
Reports indicate that MP Kyagulanyi and three others have been arrested including NBS journalist Raymond Mujuni
Kampala Central Division politician Fred Sentamu Nyanzi, better known as Chairman Nyanzi has also been arrested.
Nyanzi, who is also brother to Kyaddondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) was picked up by anti riot police officers, who deployed early morning around the City Square to curtail a demonstration against the new Social Media tax.

On Wednesday the group led by Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine, musicians led by Hillary Kiyaga also known as Dr.Hilderman and journalists led by NBS’ Raymond Mujuni among other activists hit Kampala streets before being intercepted by police along Kampala road on their way to the Constitutional Square.
The group started marching from Mini Price before they were intercepted by Police and KCCA enforcement officers near the City Square.
On July 1, government introduced a sh200 per day levy on users of social media platforms including Facebook, WhatsApp, Skype, Twitter and Viber as well as a one percent levy on mobile money transactions.
The new taxes received opposition from the members of the public.
Last week, activists including Members of Parliament, musicians and journalists among others launched a campaign dubbed ‘This tax must go’ in which they announced peaceful demonstrations in the city against the new taxes.
The MP along with a few other colleagues from Parliament, together with local musicians, media practitioners and rights activities have been pressurizing government to rescind the Shs. 200 daily tax on social media, which came into effect on July 1st.
Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has since recalled the house this week to look into possible revisiting of the unpopular tax on social media and also Mobile Money transactions.

Bunyoro affairs Minister also Masindi municipality Member of Parliament, Ernest Kiiza, was yesterday stopped from participating in the LC1 elections due to lack of national identity card.
Kiiza was stopped by the voters who turned against him when he failed to present his national Identity card.
Every resident was supposed to present a national identity card before being verified in the voters register but for him he presented a copy of the national ID which was on his whatsapp.
Kiiza was chased away by the angry residents who accused him of wanting to take part in the LC1 elections without a national ID and yet it was one of the main necessities.
After being chased, he came back presented a parliament identity card which was also rejected by the voters who complained to the electoral commission officials.
A voter who spoke on condition of anonymity said that he was disappointed to see the whole minister turning up for LC1 elections without a national ID and yet it was one of the main necessities.
Kiiza was seen stranded while other voters were participating in the elections.
When our reporter reached Kiiza for a comment, he explained that he was with his national Identity card but he didn’t know how it got lost adding that he was not happy with the electoral commission officials and the voters for not allowing him to vote and yet they know him as a resident.
