In Kampala—
Some of the pictures circulating on different media platforms show the Mityana Municipality legislator, Francis Zaake badly injured with serious wounds on face and hands.
Other legislators including Muhammad Nsereko have expressed concern on the operatives treated their comrade terming it as inhumane.
“This is too much, what wrong did honorable Zakke commit to deserve this? What sort of arrest was this? What offense did hon Zakke commit? Who is responsible for this? Why treat a human being in such a degrading manner? What country do we have now?” Nsereko wondered in a social media post.
Zaake was arrested on Monday night in Arua alongside the Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine and others.
Meanwhile the family of the Kyaddondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has tasked the government to explain the whereabouts of their relative.
Bobi Wine was arrested on Monday night from Arua following the shooting which claimed the life of his driver Yasin Kawuma.
Police spokesperson, Emilian Kayima on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of Bobi Wine and some other lawmakers including; Francis Zaake (Mityana Municipality); Gerald Karuhanga (Ntungamo Municipality); and Paul Mwiru (Jinja Municipality).
The others arrested include former Makindye East representative Mike Mabikke; and. The lawmakers had travelled to Arua to drum up support for Independent candidate Kassiano Wadri who was also arrested. The police did not reveal where these people are currently detained.
However, the family of Bobi Wine led by his wife Ms Barbie Kyagulanyi has demanded that the government reveal where these people are being detained after learning from sections of the media that they are detained in a military barracks.
“My husband has never been in the army. He cannot even distinguish different types of guns out there. I wonder why he is being detained in a military barracks,” Ms Kyagulanyi said.
President Museveni in a statement released on Wednesday had claimed that Bobi Wine, Kassiano Wadri and others stoned his convoy including his vehicle, and will be singled out individually to face the law.
“These acts are strongly rejected and will be punished according to the law. Anybody who organizes such groups is responsible for their misconduct,” Museveni said.
