In Masindi—
Child neglect in Masindi district is increasing at a higher according to the report.
This was revealed by the Masindi District Probation and Welfare Officer, Annet Karamagi who expressed concern about the increasing rate of child neglect cases in the district.
Releasing the quarterly report for the month of July, August and September at the district headquarters yesterday, Karamagi said that her office recorded an increase of 24 cases compared to the last quarter where the office received 14 cases.
The probation officer attributed this to high level of poverty, poor parenting, domestic violence and lack of sensitisation among children under caretakers.
However, Karamagi added that out of the 24 cases, her office managed 17 cases and referred five cases to relevant stakeholders and proceeded to court for legal action.
She however noted that her office is sensitising parents about the dangers involved in child neglect. Karamagi appealed to parents to invest in their childrens education and also consider proper parenting of their children.
The probation officer disclosed that family disharmony ranked second in the cases registered in her officer after child neglect. She said 10 cases of family disharmony were registered against 14 for the previous quarter, indicating a slight decrease.
