In Mitooma—

Residents in Mitooma have today morning handed a man to police accusing him of murdering his 30 years old son.

The body of Orikiriza Aggrey was this morning at around 7:30am found by residents on a small path in the bush in Omukibare village, Kigarama parish Bitereko sub county Mitooma district.

Residents said that they arrested deceaseds father because he has always had a domestic wrangle with his son. They added that Aggreys parents separated but he continued to support his mother and had wanted to build her a house which they suspect led to his killing.

According to greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson SP Martial Tumusiime, the deceased had many deep cut wounds on the head, legs, and arms and on the back.

He noted that a postmortem was done at Kitagata hospital and the body was later handed to relatives for burial as investigations continue.

In Mitooma—

The Justice and constitution affairs Minister Maj. Gen Kahinda Otafiire has came out openly to say that he is happy with former IGP Kale Kayihuras firing.

While speaking at the burial of former Mutara Sub County chairman Jackson Kaginda in Mutara, Mitooma district, Gen Otafiire noted that he prayed for Kayihuras fate and God answered his prayers.

The row started some time back when Kayihura refused to allow three people including the late Kagindas son presented to him by the former to join police despite the agreement between the two.

Kahinda noted that, he was very angry at Kayihura but couldnt do anything other than keeping quiet and praying to God to pay the former.

I approached the then head of police (Kayihura) and presented the three names to be entered into police, we agreed but when the list came they were nowhere to be seen, Kahinda said.

He added that I told him that the then IGP that what you have done to me, God will pay you and He paid him (Kayihura). I kept quiet and prayed.

Kayihura was fired by President Museveni at the beginning of this year and was later arrested and is being tried in the General Court Martial.

Kahinda pledged to continue supporting the family of the late Kaginda despite failing to enter their son into police.

In Bushenyi—

Bushenyi local government, sub-counties, town councils and Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality on Wednesday 24, started implementing a commitment of one percent from the budget of 2018/2019 financial year to support youth friendly services at health facilities located in their areas.

This was revealed by the advocacy coordinate Reproductive Health Uganda Lydia Mukombe at a half day work shop held at Katungu mothers union hall to assess the progress of their last year commitment.

Bushenyi local government leaders from nine sub counties, four town councils and Bushenyi Ishaka municipality in the financial year 2017/2018 committed themselves to allocate one percent of collected local revenue to finance youth friendly services.

The workshop was attended by sub county chairpersons, sub county chiefs, Town Clerks, health workers and key district stakeholders from Bushenyi local government.

The benefiting sub counties are; Kyabugimbi, Kakanju, Kyeizooba, Nyabubare, Bumbaire, Ibaare, Kyamuhunga and Ruhumuro.

The town councils include; Rwentuuha, Kyamuhunga, Kizinda, Bitooma and Bushenyi- Ishaka municipality.

Henry Wasswa the Reproductive Health coordinator for greater Bushenyi, noted that the one percent of the local revenue collected at the district and sub counties is delivered to health centers and used in youth friendly services like adolescent and sexual reproductive health, family planning among others.

The meeting was aimed at following up and developing the district action plan to support youth friendly services.

In Masindi—

The management of Kinyara sugar limited in Masindi district has fired close to 200 permanent workers with the aim of downsizing the number of workers.

According Luka Okello, the Regional area secretary National organization on plantation Agriculture Union (NOPAU), the company closed the engineering section, fuel station and the field where most of the affected people were working.

He noted that on the 19th of October 2018 the Human resource Manager Kinyara sugar factory, Moses Kabila took him (Okello) to the General manager Kinyara briefed him that there no negotiations and confirmed the closure of the above sections.

Okello noted that terminating such a big number of people requires at least a notice of four weeks but the victims were not informed at all because the day they got the information is the day they were fired contrary to the law.

Rose Ocen, also a worker who lost his job explains that the letter they received were headed collective termination saying that a day before they were fired military and police were deployed around the factory something which disappointed them.

He wondered why government wouldnt come out and advise Kinyara management on the procedures they are supposed to follow. He adds that the workers are currently psychologically tortured.

A statement that was issued by Kinyara management indicated they did this to down size the workers after realizing that it was making losses and that it was going to compensate them.

Speaking during the meeting that was called by the chairperson LCV Masindi district Cosmas Byaruhanga today, Clare Businge Wamara the district labor officer Masindi said that she was also not notified by Kinyara on the decision it was making saying that she also had it from rumors.

Cosmas Byaruhanga, the LCV chairperson Masindi said that as leaders they are not going to sit back and see workers suffering like this noting that most of the people who have been laid off are experienced workers who have there for more than 10 years.

Byaruhanga also attacked government for always protecting the interest of the investors leaving the indigenous people to suffer.
