President Yoweri Musevenis press secretary Mr. Don Wanyama has revealed that the president was not meant to visit Bushenyi district on Saturday and Sunday this weekend as being claimed by the local leaders

In a telephone interview withwww.mknewslink.comtoday morning, Wanyama noted that he has been having a schedule for the president for the whole of October 2018 and Bushenyi was not the list.

I want to assure you that the president was not on schedule to visit Bushenyi this weekend and dont ask me about the preparations of the leaders, Wanyama said.

However back in Bushenyi preparations have been in high gear for the last two weeks.

According to sources from the RDCS office, the president was supposed to meet farmers and then have a closed meeting with 100 opinion leaders and political leaders.

Sources added that the president cancelled his visit to Bushenyi on Thursday because of disagreements among the leaders.

Sources claimed that the president will first meet leaders in a yet to be known location before visiting the district as planed earlier.

In Masindi—

Less than 30 per cent of the people reportedly wash their hands before handling food in Masindi district.

According to a report presented by the Water Trust, a non-governmental organisation dealing in issues of water and sanitation in Masindi district, only 28 per cent of the people in the district wash their hands before handling food.

Daniel Icha an official from the Water Trust and asked the district leadership to work with the development partners and come up with a strategy to increase the per cent.

This was during the sensitisation of food handlers from Masindi town on hand washing that marked the climax of this years global hand washing week for the district held at Masindi district chambers on Thursday.

At sub county level, Icha revealed that Masindi Central division has the highest per cent in the district at 39 per cent followed by Budongo with 24 per cent, Pakanyi with 23 per cent, Miirya Sub County at 10 per cent, Kigulya division 14 percent, Nyangahya division 21 per cent, Kimengo sub county 9 per cent while Bwijanga is last at 6 per cent.

Speaking during the same event, the district health educator Michael Muddu who represented the District Health Officer underscored the importance of hand washing in having a healthy life and commended the organisation for their efforts in promoting the practice in the district.

The district chairperson Masindi, Cosmos Byaruhanga, who was the chief guest asked food handlers to embrace the culture of washing hands before touching any edible thing in order to keep their clients healthy.
