NINE YOUTH INNOVATORS IN BUNYORO AWARDED FOR FIGHTING UNEMPLOYMENT

Nine young innovators in Bunyoro region have been rewarded by Uganda Small Scale Industries Association-USSIA rewarded for their efforts in fighting
unemployment and contributing to social economic development of the
country.
Under the Bunyoro Youth Innovation Awards 2018, only nine innovators were rewarded from over 100 entries across the seven districts of Bunyoro region following a vigorous appraisal, assessment and evaluation for applicants.
Robert Kaahwa, who runs a carpentry workshop dubbed RK furniture and
molding workshop in Kiryatete, Hoima town emerged the overall
winner for this years awards.
Kaahwa who studied catering and formally an employee at Kolping hotel
was rewarded with cash prize of sh1 million, a plaque and a certificate for his outstanding work.
Cisy Nambuzi won the PWD category, Rosemary Wabyona aged 19 was rewarded as the youngest entrepreneur, Charity Kenyange emerged as best female innovator, Ismail Senteza as best youth employer, David Muliisa. Others awarded were Gloria Kyaliisima and William Kasaija.
Officiating the awarding ceremony at Glory summit hotel on Friday, Mary Mugasa, the municipal mayor challenged the youth innovators to improve on their marketing strategies saying she was shocked to discover that there are many youth innovators whose service remain unknown.
She said they need to exploit all marketing avenues like using social media, radio,social events and others revealing that there are many youth producing goods but are not known.
Veronica Namwanje, the executive secretary Uganda Small Scale Industries Association said the program was aimed at promoting competition and quality products by youth innovators in Bunyoro.
She asked innovators to embrace formalizing their enterprises,embracing learning new skills among others.
