153 EBOLA FRONT LINE HEALTH WORKERS VACCINATED IN KANUNGU

A total of 153 out of the estimated 591 front-line health workers at risk of Ebola in Kanungu district have been vaccinated with RVS-zebron vaccine.
RVS-zebron is the first highly effective Ebola vaccine since the first outbreak of the disease more than 40 years ago.
This was revealed by Dr Annet Kisaakye from the world health organization,during a meeting of the Kanungu district Ebola task force held at Kanungu district council hall.
She is hopeful that all frontline health workers in Kanungu are vaccinated by Saturday this week before they head to Kisoro.
The meeting resolved to request the world health organization in conjunction with the ministry of health to consider vaccinating security personnel and volunteers manning the boarder points, since these are also at a great risk.
Kanungu district health officer Dr Stephen Ssebude revealed that 15 health facilities are being considered for vaccination and these are; Bwindi community hospital, Kambuga hospital, Kyeshero health centre II, Kayonza tea factory Health centre III, Kihihi health centre IV, Kanyantorogo Health centre III, Kihembe health centre III, Matanda health centre II, Ntungamu health centre II.
Others are Kayonza health centre III, Kazinga health centre II, Bushere health centre II, Bihomborwa health centre II, Nyamwegabira health centre and Bugiri health centre II.
The vaccination will also take place at seven entry points along the border of Ishasha, Mwanjari, Rukarara, Munyanga Butogota, Kyabuyorwa, Kyeshero and Kashenyi.
Dr Annet Kisakye however called for infection prevention and control as Ebola continues to claim more lives in eastern DRC.
