KITAGWENDA MP CHARGED OVER 100M FRAUD

Buganda road court chief magistrate Ayo Miriam Okello has released on bail Hon Agaba Abbas Mugisha, the Member of Parliament for Kitagwenda County in Kamwenge district, who has been charged with six counts of obtaining money by false pretense.
The MP is accused of obtaining 110 million shillings from one Kasaija Patrick to represent him as an advocate in court, the money which he denies receiving.
Agaba in his plea denied all the six counts against him after which the prosecution informed court that investigations into this matter are complete.
Defense lawyers led by Caleb Alaka then proceeded to ask court to grant the suspect bail
“The applicant undertakes the responsibility to appear back in court to clear his name on this politically motivated case,” Alaka said.
The MP was stood surety by three people; Hassan Bassajja balaba the chairman Board of trustees KIU, Hon Mbwatekamwa Gaffa, MP Kasambya County, Hon Michael Mawanda the MP for Igara County.
With no contestation from the state, the magistrate released the suspect on a cash bail of 2 million shillings while the sureties have been ordered to sign a non-cash bond of 20 million shillings.
The matter has been fixed for hearing on 10th April 2019.
Prosecution contends that on 12th August 2016 at Lugogo House, Hon Abbas obtained 30 million shillings from Patrick Kasaijja purporting to represent him in court as an advocate whereas not.
The state adds that the MP went ahead on various occasions to obtain 20 million shillings, 20 million shillings, 10 million shillings, 20 Million shillings and 10 million shillings in various locations from the same person purporting to represent him in court.
