Four Christians of Kashozi Church of Uganda in Eastern ward, Rukungiri municipality were yesterday briefly detained at Rukungiri police station, over a church scuffle.
The arrested were identified as Allen Biryeija the former mothers union leader, Charles Kweshumbire the former fathers union leaders, Herbert Biryeija and Alice Kajuri.
This follows when Christians were celebrating Easter Monday, and section of them accused the Rujumbura archdeacon, Rev. Elisa Waswa of failing to put the church to order.
They also accuse their catechist, Steven Asiimwe, head of laity Lauben Turyahikayo and church leaders of poor administration, mishandling church funds, disrespect, conducting secret night meetings, and untimely changing of church administrators among others.
The four and others did not allow Can.Waswa to talk to the congregation, leading to their arrest.
Can. Waswa asked the believers to sort their differences, as children of God.
They also said that since Steven Asiimwe took over as the lay reader and the appointment of Turyahikayo as the head of laity, divisions have emerged in the church and some Christians have since abandoned and boycotted church arrangements.
Efforts to get a comment from Asiimwe were futile since he refused to comment on the allegations put against him.
However Turyahikayo noted that Kweshumbire, the former fathers union leader is behind all this because he mobilized Christians to demonstrate and disrupt yesterdays church service.
