Police in Kanungu district are investigating circumstances under which
a 25 year old man was murdered by mob and his body dumped in a playground in Kihihi town council Kanungu district.

The deceased has been identified as Rodgers Niwamanya, a resident of
Ndeeba cell in Nyakatunguru ward in Kihihi town council Kanungu
district.

The deceased’s body was discovered yesterday morning at around 10:00am in a pool of blood in Polytechnic playground in Bungongo cell in Kihihi town council Kanungu district.

According to the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate, the mob accused Niwamanya for assaulting and cutting Jennifer Nahurira, a
resident of Rukara cell in Kihihi town council Kanungu district in the
night of 22nd June 2019 when she was coming from Miami bar and Lounge club.

Maate also said that the intelligent report dated 28th May 2019
highlighted that Niwamanya is among the names of people that were
terrorizing Kihihi town council and in the neighboring areas.

He also said that he has been known as a habitual offender and was recently released from prison over cases of robberies, theft, and burglary among others.

Maate said that his body was taken to Kihihi health Centre IV for
postmortem as investigations in the matter continue.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has asked secondary schools in the country to enroll students on skill programs to help them create their own jobs.

In a speech read for him by the Minister in charge of general duties Mary Karoro Okurut during Jubilee celebrations of Immaculate Heart Girls School Nyakibale, the president noted that the country has reached a stage where graduates without skills are no longer competitive.

He said that to reverse this trend, schools need to go into skilling ventures so that children right from their inception are encouraged to venture into hands on programs that will help them overcome the unemployment syndrome after completing university.

Museveni said the country’s development strings on women whom previous governments had not considered hence making Uganda behind in terms of development.

He said women constitute more than 50% of the population in Uganda and it would be foolhardy for anybody to leave more than half of the population out of the development agenda adding that that’s why NRM government had to come up with programs to emancipate them.

The president applauded Immaculate girls School administrators for showing other government institutions how to use meager resources but produce better results.

He was referring to the golden jubilee complex put up using less than shs5billion shillings.

President Museveni noted with concern that there are so many fundraising but when ones look at what is being put up in certain places do not reflect the money collected which he attributed to corruption.

On his part Rukungiri municipality MP Roland Kaginda challenged government to stop spending a lot of money funding officials to go abroad for benchmarking on issues related to accountability yet there institutions in the country that are corrupt free.

He said such institutions like Immaculate heart Girls school can be used by government to learn from and reverse the trend. He said Immaculate heart has become model for proper utilization of government money in infrastructural development.

But Kaginda’s outburst was down played by Rubanda County MP Paulo Turyahikayo who said MP’s are not only going abroad to benchmark in areas of education alone but they look into many things like the improvement of innovation and technology. The Jubilee complex with sitting capacity of more than four thousand people was built to mark fifty years of existence of the school and will house a chapel, dinning and main halls and classrooms as well.

Immaculate heart girl’s school commenced the celebrations with a charity walk around Rukungiri town and later saw over 200 girls being confirmed by Bishop Charist Rubaramira who also asked the school not only to concentrate on academic programs but train the girl child holistically.

A senior daily monitor journalist in south western Uganda has been elected 7th president of Lions Club of Ntungamo District 411B-Uganda.

The elected one Rumanzi Perez has replaced Enock Basude who has been the Club’s president for one year.

Lions Clubs International (LCI) is an international non-political service organization that was established originally in 1917 in Chicago, Illinois, by Melvin Jones.

It had over 46,000 local clubs and more than 1.7 million members (Lions & LEO) in 190 countries around the world.

Speaking to the media ahead of installation ceremony, Rumanzi attributed his election as president of Lions to patriotism and his extraordinary performance in serving the community through human rights advocacy.

He asserted that during his one year term of office, he will partner with south Ankole diocese to implement the construction of Eye Hospital at the Diocesan headquarters.

Rumanzi said that he will also apply skills in Peace Media and counter terrorism to help in curbing the global issue of terrorism threat and those involved in conflicts.

He noted that government and other development partners should advocate for diabetic retina since most elderly are suffering its consequences in villages.

Rumanzi pledged to increase environment protection awareness and youth development projects especially career guidance given the fact that climate change has become a topical issue globally.

He pledged to embark on recruiting new Lions so that they can give a hand in uplifting the standards of the vulnerable in society across the global.

Rumanzi was born on January 08, 1985 in Nyankoro village  Bugangari sub county Rukungiri district, went to Nyakariro Primary school, Kabweho SS, St Gerald’s SS Nyakibale, UMCAT, Makerere Business Institute, and Park Ville University California where he attained Peace Media and counter terrorism.

He is married with a daughter and son.

The installation of president Lion Rumanzi Perez and induction dinner will be on Friday 28^th June 2019 at Home to Home tourist Hotel Kyahweire Ntungamo and chief guest is expected to be Lion Edgar Mbahamize MJF cabinet secretary.

In Kampala-

Three secondary school teachers have been remanded for allegedly participating in the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE), examination malpractices.

The accused persons are Mr Rajab Abdu Matovu, the director of Studies High Way College Kiganda in Mityana District, Mr Joseph Kabogoza, an Entrepreneurship teacher at the same school and Mr Nixon Winjira, a teacher at Saint Henry’s Namugongo.

They appeared before Buganda Road Magistrates Court that was presided over by Mr Robert Mukanza.

Upon denying the charges, Mr Mukanza remanded them to Luzira Prison and adjourned the case to July 5^th.

Prosecution contends that Matovu and others still at large between November 20, 2018 and December 4, 2018 within Kampala and Wakiso districts using WhatsApp on a mobile phone, knowingly or negligently, revealed the contents of UACE Uganda National Examination Board papers of Entrepreneurship, computer and Luganda to a one Kabogoza, who was an unauthorized person.

It is further alleged that Matovu revealed the same exams to a one Ivan Katumba, another unauthorised person.

Two days after the American embassy issued a terror alert warning its citizens of a planned attack by terrorists targeting crowded and high-end places, the Uganda Police force has also warned residents to be vigilant as they watch the Africa Cup of nations in bars and clubs.

According to the statement issued by the Director Counter Terrorism Abas Byakagaba, the police had received credible intelligence reports of possible intention by terrorists, “to conduct simultaneous or isolated attacks on Uganda and another East African Country, targeting unspecified areas/facilities including those facilitated by foreign nationals.”

On Thursday, the US embassy in Kampala issued terror alert for possible attacks on Uganda, This was after the US embassy in Dar es Salaam also issued a terror alert in Tanzania warning its citizens to stay alert.

“There are rumors of impending attacks in areas frequented by expats within East Africa, including Uganda.  The Embassy has no substantiating evidence of the threat or information on the timing, but nonetheless warns citizens to take the precautions,” the US Embassy noted.

The US citizens were asked to among others, be aware of their surroundings, avoid crowds, monitor media for updates, and stay alert in locations frequented by tourists/Westerners.

Byakagaba directed all police commanders with immediate effect, implement tough security measures which include, instructing all personnel at places of deployment to remain alert. He also wants the police commander to conduct, “Security inspections and snap checks on all crowded places and those that normally host foreign nationals for whatever purposes.”

He also wants police to ensure that they properly monitor all public places that will host the Africa Cup of Nations matches from the start which was Friday, June 21, 2019 to the final day of the tournament July 19^th, 2019 and ensure increased security in all those places that intend to conduct public viewing of the matches.

The Counterterrorism boss also wants “enhance focused counterterrorism deployments, patrols, surveillance, and intelligence operations in areas of responsibility.”

Police commanders are also required to activate alert squads on alertness of personnel on duty. They are also required to, “watch out for suspicious individuals, vehicles and motorists, both parked and in motion especially at venues or any crowded places that normally hosts foreign nationals and any other objects since explosives devices can be disguised to look like ordinary items.”

Police are also required to work with sister security forces including control to places that conduct routine checks and those that normally do not do so.

Police Commanders are also required to enhance the protection of stations, barracks, and other vital installations.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango noted that they had deployed in critical areas to ensure the public and vital installations were protected.

The warning comes in the wake of the arrest of 3 Kenyan who were intercepted on Friday by the Uganda Revenue Authority as they were being smuggled in a registered truck KCT 230T concealed in wooden boxes. They have since been handed to Internal Security Organisation which is treating them as terrorist suspects.

On July 11, 2010, the Al-Shabab carried out two suicide bombings against crowds watching a screening of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final match in Kyadondo Rugby grounds and the Ethiopian restaurant in Kabalagala. The attacks left over 74 people dead and 71 injured.

In Kampala

Two armed robbers have been shot dead in a fire exchange with police at a fuel station owned by Dr Kizza Besigye in Nsambya, a Kampala suburb.

According to witnesses, the police engaged the thugs following an intelligence tip off that they were planning to rob an unspecified amount of money at the fuel station.

When this reporter arrived at the fuel station, two bodies of the suspects were lying in a pool of blood while police recovered two guns at the scene.

Police have sealed off the police station as further details are gathered about the incident.

The incident is one of the many involving guns in a period of eight months.

www.mknewslink.com has learnt that the men behind these robberies are highly trained and coordinated, which has made it difficult to apprehend them.

Hardly a month after armed thugs raided a hardware shop in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District; armed men recently killed two mobile money operators and robbed them of unspecified amount of cash in Zzana on Entebbe Road.

Just like the Nansana robbery, the armed thugs were riding motorcycles without number plates.
