RUKUNGIRI: MOTHER TO MURDERED CATHOLIC BROTHER SPEAKS OUT

Janerose Bakeshisha, 77, a mother to the slain Brother Emmanuel Robert Mugarura who was found dead near the hostel at Kyambogo University has told the press last words she had with her son.
She said that his last days with him was in Easter holidays that he came home after Easter and spent two days at home with his suspected killer Robert Asiimwe a student at Kyambogo University.
“My son have been helping many children but among them he was very close to Robert Asiimwe who was like his real brother, last time they were here I tried to prepare a separate bed for his visitor but refused saying is his brother they will sleep in his bedroom together,” she said.
She added that her son told her that Asiimwe was from Ruti in Mbarara that he taught him at St Charles Lwanga seminary Kitabi and started paying his school fees from senior two up to where he was toady.
After his studies, he worked at Kiterede, Eledoret in Kenya as head teacher and then to St Charles Lwanga seminary Kitabi in Bushenyi where he worked as the head teacher for eight years before he was promoted to the level of Superior general of brothers.
He was overseeing the projects of Banakalori in East Africa countries. He had completed touring Kenya projects and was scheduled to visit Tanzania next month.
According to the mother, late Mugarura was planning a function to celebrate his 25years in priest next year in April next year.
Bakeshisha said his son started serving in church when he was just five years was working as Alter server at Katojo Catholic Church.
According to www.mknewslink.com reporter, when he visited their home on Saturday morning in Katojo cell Rwakirungura ward Buyanja town council Rukungiri District, the mood was tense.
She said that Robert the late was the 7th born in the family of four boys and eight girls. She added that all girls are still alive and three boys have since died.
Mugarura attended Katojo Primary school in Buyanja and St Gerald’s secondary school in Nyakibale for S1 and 2 before joining religious leadership education at Kiteredde in Masaka.
“We agreed with him as family to join the church leadership education and fortunately he was offered a scholarship until he completed his studies,” she said.
She added that Mugarura was the eye of their whole family as it was surviving mainly from him even before his father died in 2017.
“He has been paying school fees for most children of his sisters and late brothers even to those whom he is not related with. He has been currently paying school fees to over 30 children in Universities, institutions and secondary school,” she said.
Bakeshisha added that his son was born on 20th December 1972 at her home and his father never bought her meat as he used to do whenever she gave birth because Christmas was near and he said she will eat Christmas meat.
“When he grew up and told him that his father never gave me meat at his birth claiming that Christmas was near, he used to send me money to buy meat every weekend,” she said.
His father Serestiano Bakeshisha died in March 2017. “After the death of my husband Mugarura constructed for me a new house to make sure I forget the death of my husband,” she lamented.
