Kitagata coffee farmers platform group from Kashekuro in Kitagata sub county Sheema district have taken a step to the RDC Frank Kyereere asking him to link them and meet president Museveni physically before this month ends for help.
These farmers requested this today 21st july2019 in the meeting that was held in Kashekuro trading centre.
They told RDC that they have tried their level best through their elected leaders (members of parliament and ministers) to link them up with president Museveni but all in vain.
They vowed that if they don’t meet him in this month, they will walk up to Kampala until they meet him.
However RDC Sheema district Frank Kyereere replied by blaming them for not supporting Prof Ephraim Kamuntu the area MP in recent elections especially Kashekuro and Kyeibanga people saying that he is the only person who would have connected them to president Museveni because he is the best friend to him.
He noted people exclusively voted for Kamuntu’s opponent saying that that is why at the beginning of this year chose a big number of people from Sheema south to meet president Museveni and only one person from their side while other areas were represented by over 15 people.
Speaking as the the group chairperson, Mwesigwa Steven said that they also need to meet Museveni like any other groups and if they get that chance, they will ask him to buy for them coffee crushing machine and a two Lorries to transport their products.
Mwesigwa noted that their local leaders especially the members of parliament have done nothing to help them despite plead before them.
Rtd Sergeant Katehangwa Eli also the group member told www.mknewslink.com that the reason as to why they decided to meet president by themselves is because they are tired of their location leaders whom he said that they last saw them in 2016.
“For Sheema, we escorted other areas in voting; because our leaders are very busy in their offices hence no time to come back at grass root. They are good people when they need something from you because I witnessed this in 2016 when I last saw them in this village. We tried our best asking them to connect us with state house boss but up to date, we are still waiting and no feedback we have ever got from them,” Rtd Sergeant Katehangwa
Kitagata coffee farmers group consists of more than 150 members although it is alleged that only 78 are active.
It is also alleged that they harvest not less than 70 tonnes of coffee every season.
