The Bushenyi -Ishaka Municipality Mp Hon. Gordon Arinda commonly known as Cowboy has requested graduands not to base only on their professionals and papers acquired from schools but also try other activities if they are to achieve success.

Speaking as the chief guest at the 5^th graduation ceremony of Zion Institute for tertiary studies held at Bushenyi Municipal play ground, Gordon asserted that after their studies, graduands should not put their eyes on government as their only source of jobs but also create their own.

He further urged graduands to exploit modern technology to build their destiny saying that they should use social media platforms like whatsapp, face book, Twitter among others as a line of making money and creating jobs.

Gordon also asked them to stop undermining any kind of job so long as they earn money from it.

196 students have graduated in different courses from Zion Institute of Tertiary studies today during its 5^th graduation.

Giving his remarks, the Bishop of West Ankole Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni asked graduands mostly girls to stop being enticed by small luxurious things like money by strangers and promote the sanctity of their lives in order to live a happy and successful future.

The Director of Zion Institute Joan Mashanyu wholeheartedly thanked Rev. can. John Mashanyu for the zeal and good heart of a parent at the institute saying that in whatever aspect, he (Rev. John) has been there.

Addressing the congregation as the guest, Rt. Rev. Yonah Katonene also said that the institute not only emphasize on education but also train the whole person with quality skills.

Certificates were awarded by Prof. Emmanuel Karoro and at the same time he was the main celebrant.

In Kampala

Victoria University a leading private university located in the heart of Kampala has signed a memorandum of understanding with Federation of Uganda Basket Association to cooperate in both sports and academic field.

Federation of Uganda Basket Ball Association president, Mr Nasser Sserunjogi during the signing said the MoU is aimed at capacity building, research and scholarship for basket members and fraternity.

“I believe it will go in a very long way in helping us in terms of management and administration of our members as you well aware that we have clubs which are members of other associations and some of them really lack basics of administration and management of their clubs” Sserunjogi said.

He added that there is a lot of need to train those clubs in such aspects and to be well conversed with the principle of management, administration and other training aspects.

“We believe in return this will help in the growth and development of the game of basketball and at the same time it is a mutual benefit for the two parties entering into this partnership, I believe also Victoria University will benefit a lot in terms of exchanges between the two parties”. He added.

He thanked the management and administration of Victoria University for accepting to come on board and partnering with the federation to try and develop the game of basketball in Uganda.

Associate Professor Krishna N Sharma the Victoria University vice chancellor in his remarks also said the university was honored to collaborate with FUBA a prestigious organization.

“We realized that sports is not just a game these days, we have different faculties and we feel that we can fit well with the organization, these days games are also diplomatic for example India and Pakistan there is a lot of clashes but still cricket game is something that keeps binding them, sports is more od diplomatic and that’s why our faculties of humanities and social science come in to promote the unity” Said Prof. Sharma.

He adds that the university’s aim was to build a sports culture together with FUBA and plan the collaboration such as to create an impact that will improve the level of sports played in Uganda through researches and conferences.

The Vice Chancellor revealed that next year they are planning to hold a conference in Uganda in collaboration with FUBA which will add value to participants and change their knowledge, skills and attitude.

In Rukungiri

Police in Rukungiri are holding a woman for allegedly murdering his husband the retired head teacher of Muntuyera high school Kitunga.

The arrested has been identified as Keroyi Bamanyisa 70 a resident of Bwambara trading center Bwambara Sub County Rukungiri district.

It is suspected that Keroyi put on fire his husband Adonia Bamanyisa 77 in the visitors’ bedroom after the two had a misunderstanding in the night of Wednesday.

According one of the grand children (Names Withheld) , the two had a heavy quarrel before the woman started beating the man who later moved to the visitors’ bedroom which the old woman locked from outside.

“After we had super grandmother started quarreling with our grandfather, then grandmother asked us, me and my brother to go to bed then we heard them fight and what we saw next was fire and grandfather asking that we open for him,” the child said.

“Grandmother said we don’t open, then we jumped out through the window, and grandmother also went out as fire increased we called people to help us by the time fire was put out grandfather was dead”.

According to one of the sisters of the deceased the two have been at log heads for many years, but, because the man was learned he kept quiet from the inside.

“I one day witnessed Keroyi beat the Adonia, accusing him of having other women in the trading center I helped calmed the situation but my brother told me he was tired of the wife’s acts”. She said.

The Rukungiri district police criminal investigating officer, Onesmus Kamugisha confirmed the arrest of one suspect Keroyi Bamanyisa and said samples of exhibits like generator, burnt mattress and others have been taken as investigations commence.

In Rukungiri

Police in Rukungiri are investigating the death of a woman in her thirties.

The deceased has been identified as Ronah Tayebwa a resident of Ihendamata cell Nyabubare parish, Bwambara Sub county Rukungiri district.

According to Hope Tushemereirwe an eyewitness, she was looking for her lost pig only to find a person lying in the bush in the morning hours which forced her to make an alarm calling for help.

The chairperson of Ihendamata cell, Ikeme David, said that Ronah was last seen at her shop at around 03:00pm on a Wednesday 31^st July so they were surprised to find her dead.

He said, “We had not reported a missing person yet because we thought it was the usual go and come back”.

Her uncle Gideon Rurihoona, said that he had talked to her as she seemed not well because she was bothered about the education of her daughter.

Gideon Rurihoona her uncle said, “we talked last Sunday she seemed to be bothered of where to get her daughter’s school fees, but I did not know she would do such a thing, I don’t know whether she killed herself or she was murdered, God Knows.”

The officer in charge of Rukungiri police station Edwin Atukunda, said preliminary investigations show she might have killed hers self, because next to her body was a small bottle, suspected to contain poison.

“We have started investigations, we are going to check with body and the bottle next to it, and an exclusive report will be given to you,” He said.

The body was carried to Rwakabengo health center III mortuary as investigations commence.

In Ibanda

Over 200 pigs have been reported dead in Ibanda District following an outbreak of African swine fever.

According to Dr. Leonard Wamala,the District Veterinary Officer, the  swine  fever has killed ordinary pigs including wild ones that live in the bushes.

 Wamala said that the infected sub counties are Nyamarebe and Ishongorero in Ibanda North constituency where 200 pigs are allegedly reported dead while fifteen pigs have been reported dead because of the swine fever in Kagongo division, Ibanda municipality in Ibanda South Constituency.

He appealed to the local residents to take interests by exercising eating of meat that has been inspected by veterinary doctors.

He confirmed that an official statement from the veterinary department in Ibanda district has been issued that traders should not move pigs from those infected areas especially in Nyamarebe,Ishongorero and Kagongo division to pork joints in other districts.

A prominent Ugandan activist jailed last year for insulting President Yoweri Museveni, was yesterday convicted of cyber harassment.

The Ugandan university researcher and outspoken critic of Museveni, Stella Nyanzi, was “found guilty of cyber harassment,” lawyer Isaac Semakadde told AFP.

However, a second charge of “offensive communication” was dropped, he added.

Stella Nyanzi surprisingly welcomed her conviction on cyber harassment with a smile and wondered why court did not convict her of all charges that were brought against her.

Nyanzi who was originally detained and tried in July 2017 for calling Museveni “a pair of buttocks” — was arrested again in November 2018 and has since spent nine months in prison for what prosecutors described as a “brutish attack on the person of the President and his late mothe

Nyanzi waits for her sentence today Friday and she is likely to spend three more years in prison on top of nine months she has been in prison.
