The state minister for health in charge general duties Ms Sarah Opendi has cautioned organizations against medical camps screening for hepatitis B without providing vaccination.
Speaking to medics while presiding over the launch of the Rotary Family health week at Ruhaama health centre III on Saturday, Ms Opendi said screening individuals against a disease without providing vaccination would actually be more fatal than not screening since it may lead to laxity as they may feel they are safe.
The Rotary district governor Francis Xavier Ssentamu said Rotary was engaging in medical camps to complement government services and show the statistical gaps that may exists in the sector for proper government filling.
The Ntungamo woman Member of parliament Ms Beatrice Rwakimari who invited the Rotary clubs for the camp said the rural communities are highly vulnerable to diseases that they may not easily get diagnosed thus a need for more medical camps that can easily identify infections.
The camp had over 500 individuals diagnosed and treated in various infections including hepatitis B, HIV, teeth, throat, nose and ear infections, maternal health issues and other common infections.
