High court central division judge in Kampala Justice Henrietta Waloyo has transferred to Mbarara high court a case which staff members of MUST brought against three university top administrators.
The staff member through the MUSTASA Secretary General Julius Taremwa filed an application on July 30th, 2019 to disapprove the reappointment of Vice Chancellor Prof. Obua Celestino for the next five years.
Staff accused Prof. Charles Olweny (the chancellor), Prof. Obua Celestine (the vice chancellor), and the university council led by Dr. Warren Namara of wrongfully re-appointing Prof. Obua as the vice chancellor.
They argued that Obuas reappointment for the next five years without a recommendation by the council was against the procedure.
Justice Waloyo decided to send the case back to Mbarara after failing to fix a date for the matter as lawyers on both sides told her they had other cases to attend to in Mbarara.
Why cant this case be heard from Mbarara? After all I see its a Mbarara case because all of you are saying you will be in Mbarara,Justice Waloyo asked.
Anthony Wameri counsel for the applicant responded that the accused including their lawyers are all residents of Kampala adding that for cost effectiveness they thought it would be easy for them to have the matter worked on quickly in Kampala.
Justice Waloyo however decided that the matter should be transferred and be handled in Mbarara high court.
