In Rubanda

Two people died on spot today morning at the flooded Hamurwa floating bridge in Rubanda district when an Isuzu track registration number UBE 344D got off the road into a ditch.

The deceased persons were identified as Ester Kamara estimated to be in her thirties, a resident of Kyihanda village Kyirima Sub County and Ndereya Ngabirano in his 20’s a resident of Nzoroma village Kambuga Sub County, both in Kanungu district.

According to Denis Ruremire, one of the accident survivors, the accident happened when they were travelling from Kanungu district going to Karukara market for trade.

Ruremire said that the driver was trying to reverse to avoid the floods but ended up into a ditch.

The Kigezi region police spokes person Elly Maate who confirmed the accident said that the bodies were taken by Police to Kabale referral hospital mortuary for postmortem.

 He also noted that other four occupants of the vehicle whose particulars are not yet established were also injured during the accident and are currently admitted at Hamurwa health centre.

 Maate added that police is currently hunting for the vehicle’s driver who is on run to help in investigations

Meanwhile transport on that area where the accident has happened has been paralysed after heavy rains led to flooding of Hamurwa floating bridge along Rubanda Kanungu road.

Davis Tayebwa a S3 student at Hamurwa High school who every day crosses the bridge from Mpungu parish in Hamurwa to study said that he pays 2000 shillings to people who carry him on their backs to help him cross the floods, which has become expensive.

Fred Turyamureeba another concerned resident from Shebeya in Ikumba Sub County Rubanda district noted that in 2018, as area residents, they petitioned the president of Uganda Yoweri Museveni and the Prime minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda over the same bridge but they wonder why they haven`t  bothered to follow up the matter despite receiving their petition.

In Fort portal

Police in Fort Portal are holding a 36 year old woman for allegedly cutting off her husband’s nose.

According to the community liaison officer Rwenzori West Solomon Mugisa, on Saturday while in Bwabya Kdubuli Village Rwengaju parish Rwengaju sub county Kabarole district Margret Kahunde 36 years cut off her husband’s nose identified as Nyakairu Sylvester after having misunderstandings.

  Kahunde the suspect said that they had a quarrel during the day and when her husband returned home drunk; he was shouting asking her to open the door.

She explained that when she opened the door, the husband asked her to start Anti Retrievals (ARVs) that they have HIV/AIDS.

She quickly got annoyed and picked another quarrel that accidentally led her to injuring him.

Meanwhile when speaking to our reporter, the victim who is currently nursing wounds at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital, said that when he returned back home, her wife was so angry asking him where he had been , went into the room and picked a hoe which she used to cut him on the nose.

In Kanungu

Police in Butogota Kanungu district have four scrap dealers in detention over vandalizing bridges in Kayonza sub county Kanungu district.

 This follows the vandalizing of Ihihizo Bridge in Bwindi Impenetrable national park, Munyaga and Kiruruma bridges in Nyakinoni Subcounty.

 Those in police custody are Bernard Byaruhanga, Joshua Owoyesigire of Nshagi, Kalangala , Kayonza sub county, Martin Benywanira and Nickson Akatwijuka .

According to police, Martin and Nickson have since confessed their participation in cutting the bridge pipes pinning Bernard,and Joshua as the master minds of this deal.

 Speaking to Kanungu RDC Hajji Shafiq Sekandi Sengooba, he condemned the vandalizing of bridges but commended the police in Butogota for having swung into action and arrested the suspects.

Once investigations are complete, Hajji Shafiq Sekandi revealed that the suspects will be arraigned in court and charged with illegal possession of government stores.

In Masindi

The 13 Masindi district councilors pushing the removal of the district chairperson CosmasByaruhanga from office have reportedly notified the district speaker MosesKiirya of their intention to continue with the plan.

The notification is contained in a letter to Kiirya signed by the lead petitioner Julius Kahiira dated 11^th October 2019 following his rejection of their petition on grounds that they did not follow the law when signing it.

In his letter to Kahiira dated 10^th October, Kiirya cited the failure by the petitioners to comply with the council rules of procedure 104(3) that require the petitioners to sign the petition in the office of the clerk to council in the presence of sergeant at arms during working hours as the ground for rejecting the petition.

The speaker accordingly advised the petitioners to redo the process following the right procedure if they wanted to continue with their move.

Now based on the speaker’s advice, Kahiira who maintains that they followed the right procedure while filing the first petition said that they have followed the speaker’s guidance and have asked him to prepare the sergeant at arms on 16^th this month when the 13 councilors will sign the notice.

However Kahira maintains that the councilors did not need to sign in the presence of the sergeant at arms since they were signing a notice and not a petition.

When contacted speaker Kiirya declined to comment on Kahiira’s notice saying he had not received the notice.

The petitioners cite alleged incompetence, abuse of office, breeding hatred in the district as some of the grounds for removing Byaruhanga from the office.

In Bushenyi–

Police in Bushenyi district are hunting for unknown thugs who kidnapped a woman and her 20 months old baby.

It is alleged that on Sunday 13^th Oct at around 11:00am, Winfred Natuhwera aged 28 a resident of Nyakatembe cell Kyibazi Parish Kyamuhunga Sub county Bushenyi district and her baby left home for medication at Ishaka Adventist hospital in Ishaka -Bushenyi Municipality and they did not come back.

However the husband of the victim Milton Turyahebwa aged 34 a business man reported case of alleged kidnap at Mashonga Police Post on Monday 14^th Oct.

Speaking to www.mknewslink.com, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokes person SP Martial Tumusiime said that the kidnappers called Milton using his kidnapped wife’s phone demanding for a ransom worth Ugx2m on 14^th at around 1:00pm.

Police has confirmed the incident and said that they are trying to locate the whereabouts of the victims and kidnappers.
