IBANDA FAMOUS ENGINEER, FIRST RADIO INVENTOR DIES

An 81 year old famous engineer who invented and designed a private broadcasting radio station in Ibanda district in 1963 by using electronics and technology was laid to rest at Kafunjo cell in Ibanda municipality on Saturday 2nd Oct 2019.
Perez Bemanya over this week breathed his last at Mbarara referral hospital after battling with kidney failure for a long period and has been on oxygen.
Mr. Apollo Kibeherere the Ibanda municipality mayor while speaking at Perez’s burial ceremony at Kafunjo cell said that, he (Bemanya) has done a lot including writing a history Book about Ibanda district.
Kibeherere also commended the late Bemanya for supporting Runyankole Rukiga orthography programs that improve the spoken and writing standards in Ibanda district.
“There is still more to be dug out to maximize the district and tourism potential, I am requesting all people to use their talents to write more books” He said.
Perez invented a radio station in 1963 that disrupted the resident’s radio channels and was forced by the ministry of Information and Broadcasting to reprimand him on using one transmission channel without the by then Radio Uganda authority.
He is also said to have been the first engineer to repair radios, T.Vs and electricity in Ibanda district.
