The launch of StarTimes Kampala Kids Run 2019 kicked off in jovial mood at Kampala Parents School on Thursday, 3rd October 2019 under the theme “Safe Drinking Water in Primary Schools”.

According to the organisers of the event, about 51 per cent of Ugandans lack access to safe water and 82 per cent do not even have access to improved sanitation facilities with children in primary schools also affected.

It’s for this reason that Non-Government Organization (NGO), Kampala Kids Run partnered with StarTimes for the sixth edition of the run that is now scheduled to take place on December 8^th 2019 at the Uganda Museum.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Rajiv Ruparelia, the Managing Director of Kampala Parents School challenged the public not to rest until safe drinking water was no longer a problem.

“We work tirelessly to make sure we provide the best yet many children do not have the privileges we have. It is upon us to provide for them,” said Rajiv.

“Kampala Parents School pupils will also arrange a fundraising to support the cause,” he added.

On his part, the StarTimes CEO Mr. Franklin Wang said they were happy to be part of the cause and will work towards ensuring its success.

“We are excited to launch our 2nd edition of StarTimes Kampala Kids Run 2019. The purpose is to come together to support our children in rural schools by providing safe drinking water. We care about each child’s health. So let us make StarTimes Kampala Kids Run a great success,” Wang said.

Even when the event has had six editions, this is the 2nd edition with StarTimes on board as a sponsor. Other sponsors include Riham, City Oil, Ruparelia Foundation and The Food Hub.

At a cost of shs 20,000 per kid, the 1.5km and 3km categorised Run proceeds will go towards ensuring there is safe drinking water for children in rural schools.

Besides the kids’ Run, there will also be bouncing castles, a work out with Zumba dancers, and kid games by the clowns.

As a teaser to what is expected on the day of the kids run, the launch was concluded with a performance from the young and talented Patrick Senyonjo better known as Fresh Kid.

In Kampala

Ugandan businessman, Sudhir Ruparelia of Ruparelia Group of Companies, has been elected as one of the new Trustees of the Indian Association Uganda and is expected to steer the association to greater heights.

Sudhir was elected during a function that was held at the Association’s offices in Kampala on Sunday.

After being elected, Dr Sudhir said: “Friends, today I was elected one of the trustees of Indian Association. Thank you all for entrusting me.”

Sudhir’s companies like Crane Management Services and Kampala International School Uganda (KISU) have always topped  the tax payers chat at Uganda Revenue Authority.

Indian Association Uganda has for more than 100 years led Uganda’s Indian communities.

In 1972 President Idi Amin Dada expelled Indians from Uganda accusing them of benefiting more economically than indigenous Ugandan, which marked the journey of slowing the country’s economy as factories and other businesses collapsed as they were put in hands of poor Ugandan managers.

However, since the Indian communities returned to the country in the 1980s and 1990s and reinstated the association their members have worked hard to improve their relations and participated in charitable activities aimed at helping the disadvantaged in Uganda.

Over 27000 Indians are living in Uganda peacefully with different communities helping each other and working towards the development of Uganda.

Economically, Indians have once again become instrumental in Uganda despite being less than 1 percent of the population.

The Indians are estimated to contribute up to 65 percent of the revenue collected by government.

The embattled woman from Kizinda Amazing Grace church has officially denied allegations that she is a witch doctor as claimed by the locals from Kakoma, Nyabubare in Kizinda Town council.

Rovinah Ntegyereize, the proprietor of the church and a mother to 5 children said that his husband Didas Baguma neglected her with the children 10 years ago and married another woman.

This comes shortly after a news story hit all media platforms that Didas Baguma and his relatives claimed that Rovinah started a prophetic church in Kizinda and that she claimed to have super natural powers with which she self-proclaimed to be “Nabbi Mummy”.

Asked about the mysterious death of his son Collins Kamanzi on last Friday, Rovinah said that Collins 21 years died at Kampala Internatonal Hospital not at her praying place as claimed earlier by her husband and other people.

She said all those are just trying to tarnish her name.

Collins Kamanzi, 21 was a S.6 student at Nyabubare Secondary School and was doing his UACE Examinations before he breathed his last.

Cosma Atukwatse, the elder brother to the deceased (Collins) also confirmed that there is evidence of his brother dying at the hospital after suffering breathing difficulties for a long period of time.

The burial took place on Saturday at Baguma’s home (father to the deceased) in Kakoma, Nyabubare Kizinda Town council on Saturday 16^th November 2019.

In Mitooma  

Tophas Kendaba, 101 years, the mother to the Mitooma district woman Member of Parliament Jovah Kamateeka was yesterday  (Monday) laid to rest at her ancestral home in Mitooma Town council, Mitooma district.

Kendaba succumbed to sickness on Saturday 16^th 2019 at Kampala International Hospital in Ishaka.

Speaking at the burial of her mother, Jovah Kamateeka asked people to always cooperate in times of need and avoid political differences that are becoming a big threat in Mitooma district.

The Mitooma district Former LC5 chairperson advised people not to vote people who are hungry for power adding that they end up dividing voters for political benefits.

The burial was attended by many politicians especially from Mitooma district including, Wilber Byaboneka the NRM Chairperson ,Tom Tayeebwa, MP Ruhinda North, Capt Dononzio Kahonda MP Ruhinda, residents among others.

Residents who talked to our reporter shortly after the burial described the late Tophas Kendaba as a good mother, loving, caring and developmental.
