William Mwambu, the male district councilor for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) has dragged Masindi district local government and the district speaker Moses Kirya to court accusing them of continued mistreatment and harassment.
Mwambu filed the case at Masindi high court on the 6th of February 2020 through Yefusa Ochieng from Legal Action for Persons with Disabilities (LAPD) and the hearing date is on 18th of February 2020.
Mwambu says he dragged the two parties to court following his continued dismissal from Masindi district council by Moses Kirya the district council speaker.
Moses Kirya the district speaker has suspended Mwambu for three times in two years. He first suspended him in May last year on grounds that he had failed to produce social services report, he was also suspended in September last year and in January this year because of misconduct during council proceedings.
According to Mwambu, he wants court to quash the purported decision of 6th January 2020 where he was suspended for two council sittings. He also adds that he wants court to prohibit the speaker from any further unjustified suspension without the due process of the law.
Mwambu also says that he wants court to compel the district speaker to allow him continue attending council sittings with immediate effect. He also wants court to compel the two parties to pay his allowances together with that of the guide.
The politician notes that he wanted their impasse to be solved amicably stating that he tried to engage the district officials and also wrote an intention to sue but all in vain.
When contacted the district council speaker, Moses Kirya, explained that Mwambu has a right to do anything because the law mandates him adding that for him is ready to meet him in court.
Commenting on the matter, Cosmas Byaruhanga, the Masindi district LCV chairperson said that he is not aware of Mwambu dragging Masindi district local government and the district speaker to court adding that they had planned to have a consultative meeting with him on Tuesday next week before opting for the next step.
