Internet is a big driver of our social lives and has fast moved on from just enabling humans to seamlessly communicate amongst themselves to enabling professionals to acquire data that enables them to offer life-changing services.
The Internet has revolutionized how humans interact with other humans, and humans with computers and other machines; these interactions have led to the human race to find solutions a myriad of problems in all sectors that facilitate life.
And in this era of Internet of Things (IoT) the human race is faced with a pacy transformation of how life is lived and the general welfare in key sectors like health, education, military and industrialization. This is generally expected to improve life.
In the medical world, with the deployment of the Internet of Things, good things are happening. The IoT or the Internet of Medical things (IoMT) or Smart Healthcare as is known in the medical world is creating a digitized healthcare system, connecting available medical resources and healthcare services.
IoT makes healthcare service delivery effective
The Vice Chancellor of Victoria University Assoc. Prof. Krishna N. Sharma, also a renowned researcher and publisher, attests that IoT in healthcare is enabling interoperability, machine-to-machine communication, information exchange, and data movement that makes healthcare service delivery effective.
According to the Vice Chancellor, IoT applications in healthcare including telemedicine, medical management systems, clinical operation, inpatient monitoring, connected imaging and others are helping in clinical research, diagnostic laboratories and administering of medicine in hospital and clinics.
Assoc. Prof. Krishna N. Sharma, who recently as the Keynote speaker during the 2nd Annual Higher Education Conference at Hotel Africana Kampala was presenting a paper on the essence of health care management stated that the importance of internet of things in health care management is that it assists in monitoring the health of patients, prevention, diagnosing patients with illnesses as well as maintaining progress of the patient.
Need for the training of human resource
“The IoT is aimed at solving real-life health problems among citizens of Uganda and the world at large. The only way is to train human resource on how to use these devices so as to have proper health care management among different communities today.
This training will have a huge positive impact on society and health fraternity in terms of health care management. This training will have a huge positive impact on the society and health fraternity in terms of health care management.,” he said.
The Vice Chancellor highlighted that it would be good to adopt Information & communications technologies (ICTs) that are continually viewed as having the potential to address several challenges in Africa including in the health sector.
The 2nd Annual Higher Education Conference that was organized by National Council for Higher Education was attended by the Vice Chancellors of Top Ugandan Universities, Ministry of Education and Sports Executives, Executives from National Council of Higher Education, Embassy delegates among others.

In Kabale

Security officials on Saturday dispersed mourners with teargas and rubber bullets at the burial of the late Amon Paddy Amanya, a businessman in Kabale town.
Amanya was found killed by yet to be identified assailants on Tuesday and his body dumped on the roadside near highland tea factory in Kitumba parish/Sub County. He was last seen on Monday evening leaving his business premises.
As hundreds of mourners gathered at Emmaus Bile School playground in Bugongi, Northern division security personnel led by Darius Nandiinda, the Kabale Resident District Commissioner and Patrick Besigye Keihwa, Kabale District LC5 Chairperson stormed the funeral service to demand an explanation why locals had gathered with Bishop Johnson Bakashaba, the Bishop of Revival Outreach Ministries in defiance of the President’s directive.
On seeing security officials Bakashaba fled fearing arrest. The officials were also surprised to find the funeral service with police officers attached to Kabale police station.
On interrogation, Sargent Kenneth Asiimwe, a police officer attached to Field Force Unit at Kabale police station who was later arrested said that they were deployed on orders of Dan Byaruhanga, Deputy Kigezi Region Police Commander.
Lieutenant Colonel Robert Nahamya, the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) Commander of 19th Battalion wondered why locals could not take the President’s directive serious yet it is aimed at protecting them from Corona Virus.
Nahamya said that locals should have complied with the directive than gathering for such a burial which it puts them at risk.
Nandiinda condemned Bishop Bakashaba for misleading the public by presiding over such a big gathering and for crossing to Uganda from Rwanda without being screened by Katuna border health surveillance officials.
Nandiinda said that Bakashaba will be arrested and quarantined in a hospital then later be charged with defying President’s directive.
Evas Mugabi, one of the mourners faulted security officials for dispersing the mourners instead of focusing their energies on arresting Amanya’s killers.
Security operatives immediately resolved to deploy at the home of Bishop Bakashaba to make sure that all his family is quarantined for 14 days.
Bakashaba’s Revival Tabernacle Church in Bugongi was closed until further notice.

Uganda has confirmed its first case of coronavirus.
Health Minister, Dr Ruth Aceng on Sunday morning said the confirmed case is a 36-year-old male resident of Kibuli, Kakungulu zone in Kampala, who had travelled to Dubai on March 17, 2020 for a business trip.
He reportedly returned to Uganda on March 21, 2020 at around 2 am aboard Ethiopian airlines.
During the screening process at Entebbe Airport, his temperature was said to be at 38.7.
“This prompted the health team at the airport to isolate him at the airport for further follow up. Subsequent temperatures taken at intervals of 30 minutes and one hour remained the same. He was evacuated to Entebbe Grade B hospital for further follow up where a nasal swab was taken for analysis. The patient is in stable condition but remains under isolation at Entebbe Grade B hospital,” Dr Aceng said in a statement released at 12am on Sunday.
The confirmed case presented with high fever and poor appetite. He is not coughing neither did he have flu, according to Dr Aceng.
“However, the persistent fever prompted the health workers to isolate him.

In Kisoro

Security Personnel have today morning arrested Mutolere Dean, Rev. Fr. John Bazimenyera for allegedly holding a mass against President Yoweri Museveni’s directive on closure of worship places to curtail the spread of Corono Virus.
As we write this Rev Fr Bazimenyera is currently being questioned at Kisoro Police Station where he was taken to make a statement.
Preliminary information obtained by this www.mknewslink.com indicate that Fr. Bazimenyera was arrested after being found leading a short Mass at Gisoro Catholic parish in Kisoro District.
according to Fr Bazimenyera, when he arrived at the Church from Voice of Muhabura studios for morning prayers, he met a group of people who requested for prayers.
“I met a group of people who requested for prayers and they were few so I opened one entrance and held prayers for the about 40 people,”Fr. Bazimenyera said.
However, the Security team monitoring the observance of President Museveni directive in Kisoro District led by the 35th battalion Commander Lt Col Nelson Bataringaya arrived midway and stopped the prayers before Holy Communion and took with them the Priest.
The Priest was accused of not following guidelines which could be a disaster for the entire population in Kisoro District.
