In Hoima—

A Uganda people’s defense force (UPDF) officer in Hoima district is nursing wounds he sustained on his head when a group of unruly people in Buhanika Cell, Nyambogo ward Mparo division Hoima municipality attacked and pelted stones at security operatives enforcing curfew directives on Thursday night.

The victim was identified as Pte Twere Lawrence attached to the 303 brigade in Hoima district.

Julius Hakiza Allan, the Albertine region police spokesperson says that last night at around 9pm, Police received an intelligence report that in Buhanika Cell, Nyambogo ward Mparo division a group of people had gathered in a bar and were boozing.

He adds that after getting intelligence, a joint operation team boarded a motor vehicle belonging to ISO Hoima office and upon reaching the place, the group started pelting stones at them thus injuring the officer and damaging the vehicle’s window screen on the passenger side.

Hakiza noted that three people were arrested to help police in investigations noting that once investigations are done, those involved will be taken to court and charged with attempted murder and malicious damage.

In Bushenyi—

COVID 19 has virtually affected all sectors of life in Uganda and the most affected sector has been education and particularly private schools.

At the inception of the national lock down on 20^th March 2020, schools were the first category institutions that were closed with immediate effect and that came mid-way of the 1^st term.

Private Schools by nature of their operations purely survive by school fees yet by lock down announcement majority had not yet collected fees fully.

The fact that they (school owners) had not collected fees, the most affected in this were teacher some of whom last received salaries in November last year.

In this regard, the concerned authorities should intervene and help Bushenyi private teachers in these trying moments.

Remember, these educators pass through hard times even when the situations are normal, how about abnormal situations like this? Private teachers are people who are paid between 6 to 9 months a year; now that the schools are closed, guess what they are passing through.

Some of them are stuck in their schools not because they don’t want to go home but they don’t even have transport to take them back.

In Hoima—

The Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara diocese, Rt. Rev. Samuel Kahuma Abwooli, challenged people of Bunyoro Kitara to stop lamenting and work hard towards the development of the Kingdom.

He said this yesterday while presiding over a scientific thanks giving prayer service of the Omukama of Bunyoro Kitara kingdom Dr. Solomon Rukirabasaija Iguru 1 at St. Peter’s cathedral- Duhaga as part of the celebrations to mark his 26th coronation anniversary celebrations.

The King called off this year’s coronation anniversary celebrations (Empango) due to the threat posed by the deadly corona virus.

The service has been attended by emeritus Archbishop Stanley Ntagali, Vicent Kirabo, the Hoima diocesan Bishop, and the Bunyoro-Tooro Regional Khadhi Irumba Mohamed among others

Bunyoro queen Margret Karunga Adyeeri also reiterated her dismay to many subjects who keep lamenting about failed projects and the swindled funds instead of giving support and called for unity.

Bunyoro’s premier Andrew Byakutaga said that a lot has been done especially renovation of the palace perimeter wall but pledged to set up more development projects as well as demanding for the Kingdom’s public university.

Speaker after speaker appealed to Ugandans to continue observing the measures that were put in place by the ministry of health to avoid the spread of COVID19.
